It's is definitely fake.
The bezel pip is too large, dial font is wrong and text too large, magnification on cyclops is wrong etc.
I was having a burger with a good friend of mine last night and he suddenly informs me that he's bought a Rolex for £1,000 from his friend that he lodges with. He had no idea which model is was, no idea about box and papers - apparently his friend bought it years ago from an AD and since buying an Omega "just wanted rid of it". I've met the friend once and he seems a very nice guy, a business owner and quite comfortably off (not that that really means anything). More importantly, they are also good friends so I had no reason to immediately suspect there was anything wrong. At this point I'm thinking - sounds like he got a good deal on whatever this model is! When he got home he sent me a couple of pictures of the watch. I've never had a sub and I've little knowledge of this model, but immediately I thought it looked like a wrong 'un for a number of reasons. For one, the crown logo on the dial looks completely wrong?! I haven't commented on it as yet as I'd rather be sure. So here it is, I'd be grateful if those of you in the know could pass your opinion please. I hope for his sake I'm wrong because as they're friends, training partners and live together, it could cause quite a problem! Thanks in advance for your help.

My eyes,oh my eyes hurt epic proportions fake
I'm surprised you even need to ask. That is miles out.
"just wanted rid of it" even though the world knows you can't really lose too much money on a rolex sub - hmmmmmm thats when your friend should have known it was a fake
can we watch when you break the news? bring some popcorn....I hope for his sake I'm wrong because as they're friends, training partners and live together, it could cause quite a problem!
Looks like a grand up in flames.
Haha, I was waiting for someone to say that! As per my post, I think it's a total wrong 'un but I just wanted to be 100% sure before I tell my friend as there could be serious repercussions such as him having to find somewhere else to live if it all kicks off! Just covering my back :)
I have seen bad fakes, but that is just outrageous. Off with his head!!!
Shocking fake, he must have raised questions when offered for £1000?? if I thought I had a genuine Sub I certainly wouldn't be willing to let it go a £1000 even to a "friend" - unfortunately your friend has been well done on this..
Terrible fake... They are nowadays on a way different level the fakers out there..
Looks like there's going to be an awkward conversation happening later....
what a c you next tuesday his 'friend' is
thats faker than a fake thing on fake street
The fonts on the dial are the worst I've ever seen. ROLEX isn't even spaced correctly, and looks crooked too.
Wow...
I m amazed people still get fooled by this crap. Doesn't take long to do even the mildest research online these days!
Looks like one of the really poor ones regularly on offer on the beaches in Turkey...
very poor fake, be interesting whats inside, open the caseback and send pics for a laugh!
Was it purchased from a mobile beach AD, looky looky nice watches...
Jesus Christ your mate is thick as pig muck
Jesus that's one of the worst fakes I've ever seen, I mean just look at it, where do you start
With your money back maybe ?
I feel for your friend OP but also cannot believe that he would not have had a good look at the piece and had a good think before he handed over £1000. Just looking at the 'Rolex' text on the dial should be enough for anyone to think something is wrong. Then a close look at the five minute marker dots and how they aren't lined up with the minute markers would reinforce it. The bezel pip and font is probably less likely to be picked up by anyone who doesn't know their watches but the shoddy junction between end link and lugs should make even the least WIS-like person think they are potentially buying a wrong-un.
I hope he gets his money back with little trouble.
I think non WIS get easily fooled with fakes. Something hard for us to fathom.
I have had so many people come to me pumped up with their new purchase and showing off their new watches and you look at it and realise its a fake and one doesnt know what to say.
Some of the times they know they have bought a fake and are pretending, sometines they are blissfully unaware.
I do think some of you are being a little harsh on the poor chap who laid out £1,000.00 for this watch. Hopefully if his friend is a real friend then he will appreciate the situation and give him his money back - I certainly hope so.
The 18k stamp on the rear should have been proof enough!
It's a shame that somebody would take advantage of a friend like that.
Cheers,
Neil.
All the things already noted are certainly telltale signs, but the first thing I noticed was those inelegant, thick hands. A real Rolex looks like this:
Your friend needs to choose better friends me thinks.Perhaps his enemies have some better watches to sell him!.
It's not harsh at all. The guy is stupid simple as.
If he was happy buying it for a grand then he is obviously happy with the watch.
Keep you enemies close, and your friends closer.
Without knowing the full facts; I'd say yours is a stupid comment.
It may have been sold in good faith, it may not. If it was sold in good faith; neither of them obviously know anything about watches, theyve heard of Rolex, £1000 is a lot of money to anyone so maybe it seemed fair all round.
If not sold in good faith, he's been robbed. Not knowing the difference between a fake and real Rolex doesn't make someone stupid, people trust their friends.
If I was going to buy, or sell, anything I knew nothing about for £1000 just because I liked it I would at least Google it first. Would only take a minute to realise this was not the right price.
I don't blame the buyer for not knowing the difference between a real and fake Rolex. But to spend the money with no idea if its even the right ballpark cost is a bit daft.
£1000 Rolex Sub
= fake
or
= nicked.
Neither will have a happy ending.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.
Friedrich Nietzsche
That's just nasty.
Your friend has been burned. Maybe a little greed clouded his judgement (the cornerstone for any con).
His mate didn't buy it from an AD unless that was the initials of the looky looky man's shop.
Hope he gets it sorted.
He's another eBay chancer

^ Apparently photos of two different watches, but still hasn't deterred 14 bids.
Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes
When I'm passing on one of mine, I see of anyone at work is interested first; many people at my work are wearing my old watches. They trust me on what they are worth and pay me what I ask as they know I would offer them a very fair price.
That has sadly happened here, with extremely serious consequences.
very very bad fake , hope he manages to get a refund .
magnification on Cyclops /crown on dial /case / insert / markings on back and the bracelet will also give it away .
hope it works out ok for your friend .
