That's fantastic! Lovely watch.
I have been on the look out for a grey dial Datejust for several weeks. Last week, I came across one that had just landed at a dealer that I do a fair bit of business with. Had to make a quick decision on it, and so, I thought I would give it a go. It has a very distinctive look, anthracite sunburst sigma dial, gilt print with matching gold hands and smooth bezel (ref 1600). I have put it on an oyster bracelet, rather than a jubilee, which I think rather suits it. It is an early 4m serial, from early 1974.
I’m not sure that I will keep it in the long run, but for now, I am rather taken with it. Be interested to see what the general opinion is…
It's certainly a bit unusual John but I like it. I'd like a nice DJ so if you move it on, give me a shout, you never know...
very , very smooth
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Gorgeous dial!!
Looks great John, glad you landed it after all.
That looks better than the average DJ, the dial and hands are killer. The oyster bracelet and smooth bezel always work well together.
Actually rather classy in its understaded way. Nice choice.
That's very nice. The grey and hold work well together. Is the date wheel discoloured with age or is it originally non white background?
John
Love the grey sunburst - gorgeous
Very striking - I don't think I've ever seen that grey / gold combo.
Nice, but I can't help thinking that it would look better on a leather strap. What did it come on?
Lovely! Like it a lot.
Looks blue in every scan, I've seen these grey dials look brown too, depending on the light, funny things eyes!
Holy cow that's stunning!!!!!!! Nice buy!!!
That is brilliant! Great find
Gorgeous, that is a great watch, congratulations.
Very nice.
I think that dial looks rather lovely John.. ^^ That's the beauty of vintage dare I say "Rollies" can look good with almost anything..!
That's a lovely watch. Would make a great daily wearer.
Congratulations on an absolutely stunning and quite different DJ! I must say I prefer fluted over smooth any day, but combined with the matt dial, beautiful indices and oyster bracelet it looks amazing.
Thank you for the positive comments everybody. I do much prefer a Datejust (and indeed pretty much every other Rolex) on a bracelet, be it jubilee or oyster. But it sounds like I should try this one on a leather strap.
Must say I think that bracelet works very well.
Very nice. Somewhat reminiscent of the new grey-dialled Oyster Perpetual.
Rolex really do have a talent for the classy, understated look.
