Fantastic news.
Just had one of the most prominent phone calls in my life - after a full day moving my eldest home after 3 years at uni- cracked open a beer and had a call from my wife
She's only got a 1st class honours degree- I'm grinning from ear to ear- so chuffed
She doesn't get it from me
Fantastic ! You must be very proud...
Cheers..
Jase
Must be catching, as this morning we learnt that our son has achieved a 2:1 in law from Newcastle University.
Proud doesnt even begin to cover our feelings .
Congratulations but as a West Ham fan you cannot imagine my diappointment at reading the thread after that title!
I'm afraid I know FA about football
That's really excellent, I bet she's worked very hard. My nephew has just received a Desmond which we are all very pleased with since he has concentrated on the extra curricular activities :)
She's a party girl but I think realised in year 2 that she could actually get a good result with some hard work
Fantastic, a great effort
I've got a geoff and a Desmond
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Congrats!
I always "thought" or hoped my daughter would go to Uni.........but she didn't......She recently started her first job though..........Enjoy the feeling!
Well done that girl - but isn't a Geoff Hurst a quick visit to the little boys room ?
Sherman Tank - that's not what i was thinking of.
I had Geoff down as a quick burst as opposed to a Richard Pitt.
You could start a whole new thread on cockney rhyming slang. I was on holiday in April and met a family of Chelsea supporters: i'm off up the apples and pears if me plates of meat will support me and me mincers can see the door.
Cor blimey guv'nor leave it out - doing the Lambeth walk !!!
Young man, Geoff Hurst played for West Ham and England and is the only player ever to score a hatrick in a world cup final for which he was eventually knighted.
However, during his playing career his name became used as cockney rhyming slang as in - going for a Geoff Hurst (a quick burst) - not sure what you kids call it these days, a number one, wee wee or a tinkle.
And in the context of the thread, a form of rhyming slang has developed for degree classifications:
A First is known as a Geoff Hurst/Damien Hirst
A 2:1 is known as an Attila the Hun
A 2:2 is known as a Desmond Tutu
A Third is known as a Douglas Hurd/Thora Hird
Thus, one can be awarded a Geoff (First), Attila (2:1), Desmond (2:2), or a Douglas (Third).
There are probably many variations.
Congrats what subject was she studying?
Congratulations mate ,it takes some believing that those little bundles of fun are now graduating and bringing such pride to us all .
Have a fantastic day and take plenty of kleenex with you ,there does seem to be an awful lot of dust about at these graduation ceremonies .
Thanks for all the kind words - we are have a ball in Florida but I m still so excited about the graduation- it's a 1st for our family and my folks are really pleased
I know the feeling. My daughter just passed her social work MA with distinction. Pleased as punch me. 😄
Well fast forward 3 years -just had #2 daughter call with super news
She too has earned a First in psychology- one doubly proud father
#1 has just been accepted to enrol locally as a secondary school maths teacher in September
Geoff Hurst tried to chat my mum up once.
When I was a student a Third was knoŵn as a Richard...
