    Tudor /Rolex Submariner Steel

In the Rolex propaganda they often mention their watches are made of especially hard steel. I have a 1992 Tudor Submariner, does anyone know if this has the same steel as it's Rolex cousin ?

    Look up 904L

Loads of threads about the stuff.
As for your Tudor, I don't know when Rolex started using it and if they also used it with Tudor watches.

I think this is the answer I have been looking for. Thank you. I assume 316L is not as hard as 904L ?

It's not about the hardness, although it's a fraction harder I believe, but it's better resistant to corrosion in salt water and polishes up nicer than your average 316L.

Ok so theirs a difference between 316 and 904 in terms of hardness,I bet most on here don't even use their perfectly capable Rolex or other for designed tolerances!,and I also bet these differences in hardness are of no issue in everyday use for the masses here on TZ either.

If the watch you like is made out of 904 and not out of 316 you have no choice, they have used whatever they have decided for whatever reasons to make your watch......so it is what it is with no choice on your part, buy or don't buy simples.I don't think it would ever be an issue for the way I use my watches tbh.

I don't go in salt water with my GMT and I think it's shiny enough.

I know, I meant 'regularly' rather than on the exceptional model. But I'll stop digging now :p
