    Super cheap Aldi autowatch

I know that the quality of watches on here is generally very high, but if anyone is in the market for a cheap auto with a display back, then also are doing several mens' versions, 4 I think. £24.99. Not too cheap and nasty and could introduce someone into mechanical watches.

nb, duvet for colour reference only lol.

No, 24hr day / night. So you can tell if it's day or night. Without leaving the basement.

Close anyway! The fortis crown has 5 'spikes' and no line under. Interesting if anyone is after a beater

What do the 'chrono' buttons do btw?

Im sure it only looks that large due to the camera being held too close, or head-on, or at an angle, or somesuch...

Oh imagine the horror of buying one, only to find it keeps reasonable time and you actually start to like it.

Right, must be the wide angle setting on my moto. Does feel a tad heavier than the auto, but it is radio controlled!

I've dumped the Patek for this >>

    ALDIWATCH.jpg

It also handwinds and hacks and has a 3 year guarantee!

If it's half as good as the Aldi chicken breasts I just had for tea I'm sure it's very good indeed! My wife is currently testing me every evening with a different meal where she will ask 'do you like item X it's new in Waitrose to which I (genuinely) reply 'yes its lovely' to be told it costs about 40% of the (inferior) Waitrose equivalent. Of course I know where they are from as I spend half my life with my nose in the fridge but hey, it keeps her amused!!

I can identify with this situation - and those aged aldi steaks are every bit as good as anything the competitors peddle.

As for the watches - well the movements obviously aren't likely to be anywhere near as refined as something youd find in a Patek - but, at 25 quid and using what is essentially the same technology, you cant really complain...

I'm guessing it would be an easy job for the skilled people on here to fit a new dial if something classier could be found. As Umbongo says, could be a good donor for aspiring watch makers.

I think they're good value and a nice novelty conversation piece. They're selling out fast here int north lol.

For the record, mine is running at -12 seconds for the first 24 hours straight out of the box. Not too shabby for the price.

It's less than 700km from Aldi's HQ in Essen to Glashütte, so that's a strong link with fine timepieces...

Update on the timekeeping: Mine has settled at a consistent -12 seconds per day. A black one bought by a friend is running at +9 seconds a day, both of which are decent results for a cheap Chinese movement.
They must be approaching sold-out for now so maybe they have launched a whole new horde of watch enthusiasts?

Not too bad at all considering the price..

    Sale resurrection

Sorry to bump up such an old thread but if anybody is interested, Aldi in York have these in stock at the moment on sale for £14.99, haven't seen them anywhere else but they may be around.

I picked one up more out of curiosity than anything but aesthetics aside, it's an ok watch really.

I got something similar on eBay for under a tenner to see how bad it could be. Very good for the price was the conclusion.

Eventually it donated its spring bars to something else so it's just in a box at the back of a cupboard in pieces

No, you are good - that cheap one has a date and that would ruin your 5513 and make it a 1680.

The Aldi special could almost be a Laurent Ferrier homage.

I would be surprised if it had a similar movement though...

Bah! You have to bother yourself winding those examples of Ferriers offerings - those Aldi jobs do it themselves...

This Steampunk Omega, admittedly at £2 over budget, has a bracelet that might well work on a Speedy.

Also has the wonkiest dial ever.

Sadly yes, with the tourbillion (bottom pic) you do, how dare they charge such prices (it's 185k CHF).

Don't know how, but I missed the micro rotor on the other one on my first look at the pics.
So, at least one of them matches the Aldi in the self-winding stakes - but then youd hope so - the guy used to work for Patrick Phillips after all...
