    SD on EBay - Thoughts

    Chaps,

No B&P's, not far up the road from me so proper look and FTF prior to considering a purchase. Owner for a year and purchase invoice available.

    What do you think then??

    Many thanks

    Paul

Great price Paul, but the box is incorrect for the year.. You would be better off buying mine and I'm even closer... Less than 5 minutes away! ;)

but its pictured with a box?

apart from that I cant see anything obvious, the bracelet looks a little light in the clasp department and crap photos, I would avoid, not really sure why though, spidey sense thing.

It might be shown with a modern box, but as a mid-1990s W-case with pin-hole lugs the two never belonged together.

For a private sale of a watch that old with no papers it doesn't seem to offer any great value. There are lots around and you will find better - with less risk.

I like the tritium models - but I'd pay more for a full set, with papers - it's not going to be that much more and probably in nicer condition - in fact I'd probably try and find a just Rolex serviced one and pay a little more for the comfort factor, unless Imknew the watch / seller
It's just a matter of time...

Smacks of a dealer to me. Don't know why. I'd avoid personally. Better to spend an extra £500ish to to get a full set from a safer source.

I don't want to make this a competition but mine would of been a much better buy but it stood unsold.
The price I was looking at was for trade. I would of budged if the right cash offer came in.

Thanks chaps and yes Karl yours would make a great deal more sense but the war chest just will not stretch that far.

The box is not included and serial is confirmed as W926989. Can this be checked anywhere?? I may pop and take a look as he has confirmed he is open to an offer to move the on.

I have not really considered an SD as I am happy with my T<25 14060 but we are all suckers for s deal.

    Thanks again guys

I'd be asking about the service. Non of the "authorised" Rolex specialists will service the seadweller so who did it and what parts (if any) were used?

£3,250 could be the deal and that seems one hell of a bargain. But then only if I really do need/want/lust after one.

It looks ok to me, also given he is up for an offer you may get it for less.

    Paul,
IMHO £3250'ish for a SD is an absolute steal; the only caveat I'd have, is that it's on bloody FleaBay!

If you take a flyer and go for it, you could send it back to RSC and have it serviced and get a card with a 2 year guarantee. The good thing is, it also proves it's the real deal.
It'll never be as good as the original paper or plastic which came with it but it's as good as you'll get fir a Rolex with no original docs.

Seems like a good deal, I think I would have to check it out in person for that price.

I'd be over every mm of that glass with a 10x loupe for a start.

£3,250 plus the cost of a Rolex service could well end up as £4,000 total cost, for a mid-90's pin-hole case 16600 which would still lack the original box and papers......not such a bargain......oh, and in the light of recent threads, are you happy bearing the additional risk of buying from a private individual? What come-back will you have if it turns out to be stolen?

Advice I often give if asked is that patience is the greatest weapon in any watch-buyer's armoury. This is quite a common watch in the scheme of things and you will very quickly find better.

They'll service a seadweller but not guarantee the depth rating.

Why is there the obsession with B&P, you'd think their absence makes a watch valueless, which is crazy. I've no idea why people focus on this so much unless it's become a self-fulfilling prophecy...

They might if you know them, but they won't advertise the fact. I'm told it's part of their agreement with Rolex. I contacted a couple when I got mine, both gave the same explanation and told me to send it to Rolex.

If it has been serviced by an accredited guy, I doubt it would have any supporting paperwork.

I totally agree, the watch is worth less but not by that much.

You can't wear a B&P on your wrist so I'm inclined to not to worry about them too much. If the watch is honest and the price reflects that, then what's the problem?

    Only you can decide.
