I have no worries about wearing a good watch in the pool or sea. However if I'm going with the kids I tend to wear my SKX007 in case we are messing about. I want to avoid a knock on the pool side.
.... assuming your watch is suitably rated it do you leave it in the locker?

Sure, I have a Casio for that, works great.
I was training divers in the pool last night, so put on my CW Makaira rather than my Steinhart Ocean Black that I was wearing during the day.
Both rated to 300m, but the Makaira I bought new and is still under warranty, so if it leaks CW will have to sort it out
I've never had a problem with a suitably rated watch in a swimming pool, but I'm always a bit cautious about swimming in any watch I've bought used and many of my watches are on leather straps, so I don't swim in those either, regardless of WR.
To be honest, I'd worry more about leaving a 'good' (ie expensive) watch in a poolside locker!

When I just had an Omega Seamaster it went swimming, into the sauna and steam room.
I kept it serviced and it never had any problems.
Consider this though.....

I don't wear my watch in the swimming pool, due to the fact that it has a leather strap, saying that I don't use swimming pools anyway...............
I have a seamaster ploprof - I did the washing up in it once but was worried about fairy on the seals so I haven't risked it in a swimming pool.
You never listened to Rolf's advice?!

Mostly not, no use for it, there's nearly Always a big clock on the wall and a good locker.
When I'm on holiday and swimming in rivers, sea and lakes I usually wear my watch.
I had to clear the bezel on my Shogun with warm water under the tap last time I visited Suriname, the very fine sand from the Suriname river managed to get inside :)
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
I wear my OM in the pool. I do make sure it gets a good rinse in the shower afterwards to minimise the chlorine sitting on it.
I've even dived with it, it is a dive Watch after all
Dave
Yep. Swim and sea.
I wear mine all the time apart from in the shower but that's nothing to do with any water/heat/seals concerns. Just part of routine.
Yes. My only watch at the minute is a go anywhere 40mm Helson Shark Diver. I'm very fond of it but it's inexpensive enough not to worry too much about (not that I want to damage it!).
In the pool and in the sea, otherwise what´s the point?.
In the sea or gravel pits I'm happy to wear my Omega.
In a swimming pool and counting laps I use a Seiko dive watch as I use the bezel to keep count.
Not at the moment, but that's only because I've only got two watches at the moment and neither are divers.
In the past though, hell yeah (including on leather, I've a Horween Chrome Excel strap I had made up for a PAM I owned and that went Scuba'ing on many an occasion, still have the strap, still in great condition).
My wife actually takes the piss out of me for the number of my underwater shots that just, kinda, accidentally, have my watch in them :-)
And as an amateur locksmith and picking enthusiast I would never leave ANYTHING I didn't want to lose in a swimming pool locker. I could open one of those so quickly (especially the circular key jobs) you'd never assume I was using anything but the key, and wouldn't look up from towelling your junk.
If it's modern (i.e. not vintage), with a steel band and appropriately rated, yes.
Seiko 200m auto - sun sea sand snow - don't even bother rinsing with fresh water after
never had a problem
Vostok amphibian 200m - as above
Anything else - don't take for fear of scratching more than the water issue...
I don't bother taking my watch to the pool, especially on holiday, as It's the one time of the year that I'm not governed by time.
Also think it's a bit tacky, sort of look at me and my water resistant 'tool' watch.
And that's from a Sub-Date owner, go figure!
yes.
Let's face it, it's highly unlikely that I've gone to a swimming pool by accident, so therefore knowing what I'm going to do and I dress accordingly. Either don't take one or take one and leave it on. I'd never leave a watch in a locker
always thinking of wearing my datejust to pool in order to get the maximum exposure of it.
Insert pick (can't link as work PC forbids me visiting the site, but look at UK Bumpkeys for circular picks) rock ever so slightly as it goes in and turn like it was the actual key. Perhaps a full second? It really is scary easy.
What is worse is your front door if you use a standard Yale type EuroLock - again no more than ten seconds if leaving no trace, five seconds if snapping the cylinder. If you don't have anti-bump / anti-snap cylinders then go and spend the twenty quid to replace them. I mean this.
Sure with my Pelagos or MM300. Used to take my 007 in the past, marked the hardlex somehow while swimming.
Definitely wouldn't leave anything in the locker I wasn't prepared to lose. A member here had a watch stolen from the gym locker not so long ago.
I figure my GMT is good to 100m, and the pool goes to 2m. Not really dicing with danger.
Sure do on holidays etc. I would never leave my watch in a locker or a hotel room. I'll leave my watch home if I'm just going to a public swimming pool though.
My wife took this pic last January, unsolicited I might add
I wear my DSSD in the pool from time to time, I figure that with 3900M WR it should be able take it!
I have a good friend who is not particularly into watches who wears a Rolex Exp 1 that he's owned for 20 years and he wears it for everything including diving and he's never had a problem, great advert for the Rolex Oyster case.
Unless I'm wearing a leather strap the watch stays on.

As long as it is water resistant, not on a leather strap and is allowed to be worn in pool then YES!
Always wear one in open water.
I was brave enough once, to dip my Patek 5205G approx 3' into the pool. It survived, though didn't do the leather strap much good!
I take my 2 YO boy for his swimming lesson every week, I have to be in the pool with him. Always leave whatever I'm wearing that day on as I trust the WR of my divers watches far more than I trust the security of the lockers.
Did swap my Damasko DC67 for my Sub last week before I went though, but that was because the DC was on a leather lined strap. Always shower afterwards to wash the chlorine off the boy (wife is as paranoid about his skin as it seems some here are about the seals in their watches) so it gets a rinse afterwards at least.
My Ti Seawolf bracelet got scratched to high heaven when I was being tossed about mercilessly (matron) in the surf on our last beach holiday – I am ambivalent about this.
They’re watches, I did not buy them to mollycoddle in the hope that they retain a slightly higher percentage of initial cost in case I decide to sell. I bought them to wear.
If I had a ‘dress’ watch for best or something that wasn’t intended for use in wet environments I wouldn’t wear that. But otherwise (for me personally) my watch will usually stay on. I'm inclined to take it off if the likely risk is injury to me, but not if its damage to the watch only… YMMV.
I don't tend to, but only on account of what the chlorinemight do. Hasn't stopped me from wearing one on countless free-fall sessions though.
Well, I always have a watch on - any one I own has to be prepared to get extremely wet, so no way am I going to leave it in locker. The idea of taking a watch off just cos its going to get strikes me as daft.
I'm entirely happy to wear anything that's rated 50m + in the pool - never had a problem (though obviously I get quartz watches resealed when they have a new battery).
G shock or modern dive watch - Always.
Vintage USSR dive watches - No. I don't know the history and they're older than me so don't have alot of faith in their water-tightness.
Dress watch on a leather strap - No.
I bought my Sea Dweller to be a go anywhere, do anything watch, so of course I do!
