    Modern Rolex Beater

Sat here looking at my 16600 which is what I wear to work in a garage. Just wondering if anybody on here uses a more modern ceramic model for their work watch?

I use my 16600 as a general holiday watch as it is tough, does not stand out and does not mind getting wet.
My other half uses my GMT II C as a daily beater and apart from the inevitable scratches on the polished centre links, it has so far emerged unscathed.

It's a 2002, it's had two major services since then, and I check seals and pressure test to 11 bar each year.

My beater is this exp2. I really like this watch, it's a great size and easy to read.....the reason it's my beater though is I have no emotional attachment to it like I do with the others, it's just a watch. I really like having that freedom. I think I still have that part of me that wants to protect it, and the first mark on the case was hard to accept, but I'm over that now and like I say it's nice to feel relaxed when wearing it. Been wearing on an isofrane for months but back on the bracelet now. Still not sure I'd dig my footings in it or service the car!

Is that mainly salt water damage, or lot of abrasions too? A testament to Rolex reliability I suppose.

No saltwater damage on the steel, just abrasions and dings. The bezel fade comes from saltwater and the electric on our dive hats.
it has been getting about 120 days hyperbaric each year.

I also use my 16600 as the rough job holiday watch and if we ever faced a zombie apocalypse it's the wactch I would take.

Problem is my GF has now taken it......

I wonder how the ceramic era of sports rolexes will fare in the long run?

There's a certain charm about faded bezels, dents, scuffs and missing lume pips that tell a story and are testiment to the watches professional nature.

With ceramics, i feel they wont age as well, a cracked/chipped bezel insert using modern dyes that are unlikely to fade will make the watch look abused rather than patinated.

wear mine most days on site, although it doesnt see have the beatings the Sinn UX takes. it holds up pretty damn well and after 3months here only a single wee ding and as yet no scuffs at all on the bezel. i will admit to being a little more circumspect with this over the Kobold or Sinn but on the whole it makes a good work watch and on the rubber B its even better in the heat.
