I have always had a soft-spot for the GMT Master (II) because my old man has worn a GMT Master Pepsi since being gifted it by his first wife in 1967. This was unfortunately lost overboard on one of his sailing trips sometime in 2001. After much wrangling the insurance company replaced it with a 1967 model and even upgraded the clasp (to the flip-over clasp) to prevent another sailing accident.
I have gone somewhat cold on the whole watch front recently but still hanker after a Coke or Pepsi. Can I see yours please (ooo er)?
Not, a II, but still...
Quick phone shot on the way to work.
I bought mine new at a jeweller's in Newcastle in July 1986, for the princely sum of £698. It's one of the first gloss dial 16750s, and doesn't feature the word "DATE" after "OYSTER PERPETUAL" on the dial.
here you go
16710 with tritium, the perfect model for me
66 GMT 1675, probably close to your dads old watch!
Nothing in the current Rolex stable would tempt me away from this...
my 16710,
With the pepsi/jubilee it's almost a homage to my dad's trusty 1675 which has been battered around the world in all environments for the past 40+ years.
(i've tried swapping with him, ain't gonna happen!)
I do like a coke though (feels correct for a GMTII), and a spare bezel makes the transformation even quicker!.
Gorgeous watches these.
Exactly what I am looking at purchasing next, great pictures chaps
Here's mine:
One for the bezel-alignment OCD brigade.
Have one with the bezel aligned properly:
I do like Rolex and am slowly saving for a Seadweller because I'm not a cyclops fan I thmk thats why I want a Seadweller rather than a sub... But always loved the GMT in any guise but Pepsi especially.....so this in non cyclops and Pepsi is pretty much perfect ...
Very nice...
Definitely my next purchase, but finding it very difficult to decide which one to go for.
Do the root beer variants get much love? They seem very rare, were they made in less numbers? Beautiful watches these
Having looked at the price of new ceramic Master GMT II's, I see that the black version can be obtained with a discount from grey dealers (approx 10%), but the BLNR only available at full list price.
I'm assuming it's because the BLNR is still a relatively new release and its just a case of supply/demand.
Would anybody hazard a guess as to when the BLNR might be available at a discount?
Funnily enough the latest Watchfinder email had one of these featured. Can't make my mind up about them. I like the dial, but not so sure on the bezel..

So long as the bezel is bi-coloured, I'm happy.
A few years ago I was toying with one but the only ones around were Masters, not the Master II which I wanted. As this is a tartier model I would want it on the jubilee rather than oyster bracelet. They are not for everyone but if you like them, go for it.
I bought this one brand new at an AD on Dec 31, 1980. Serial number dates it to 1977.
My 16750 from the 80s, matte dial never fails to put a smile on my face

Ooft, this thread just makes you want to pop out and buy a GMT. Very jealous.

GMT experts, a question
I am looking for a GMTII with a Tritium dial, but also with a flip lock clasp on an Oyster bracelet. Did they ever make this watch or would it only be the older style clasp with a tritium dial
Thanks
Thanks for the feedback Thom, lovely looking watch by the way
I've been looking at may different year watches and there doesn't seem to be any continuity as to what year has what dial, I've seen watches earlier than 97 without the tritium dial, if they do have the dial then they don't have the flip lock clasp
My attention span in waning on this one, have found some watches on Chrono 24 that look good but in the States so face a hefty VAT bill on import
Would a Rolex Glidelock bracelet fit a 16710 GMT?
My two GMTs :
The 16710 with its Coke insert
The 16710 with its faded Pepsi insert
GMT11 will all have an oyster lock bracelet. Earlier GMT models will have the regular oyster clasp.

Rolex clasps have markings which can be useful in ageing the bracelet to the watch.

I thought the GMT II was the successor to the GMT
I don't understand how you can have a GMT Master II 16760 like this that's dated 1986
http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Rolex/G...886/item/42438
Then a GMT Master 16700 dated 1996

What am I missing guys ?
Edit: After extensive reading I understand all the different references now, I definitely want a 1990-1997 Ref: 16710

mines was full set with everything under the sun .................... sigh ........... :(

They said the bezel would make it hard to pair with my clothes. Pah![/QUOTE]
You should have put it on a brown leather strap!!
An iconic watch. Endlessly copied.
You're all bad people. This is luring me back in searching for a Fat Lady...
Come on guys, knock it off…………Please :))
I am trying to find a beautiful patina pepsi and you are not helping me with all your beautiful ones :)
keep them coming
After reading up a bit more on these, can anyone tell me about why a certain 16710 with a 3186 and the blue Parachrom spring movement is classed as a rare thing?
