Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
Which characteristic...the hoarder of Wife Jean's assessment?
Oh it's definitely me according to the wife!
I have 400 copies of the NME in my loft from the 90's.
I suppose I might get round to reading them again sometime...or not
Ho yus. I've started to categorise and index my useful stuff.
My garage is chocked full of odd items and odd pieces of rubbish that will certainly be useful one day
It may not be within my lifetime though
Oh god yes. My arse smells sometimes too! :)
Shame there are no dimensions, might be worth having a piece cut to keep handy!
I have a length of structural 4x2 harbouring spiders in my garage.
One day it will be the basis of a magnificent erection.

That's almost exactly me. ;)
I've noticed this phenomenon lately. Stuff that I've had put away for a reasonably long time shows turns out to be useful. For example, some heavy duty screen cleaner (screen printing) that I've not used in years is exactly the right stuff for removing already set low heat enamel (acrylic epoxy) from metal. Having it about saved me considerable time and effort.
Best wishes,
Bob
I bought some brake fluid in 1993 as it was on offer. It's still on the shelf in the garage, unopened, next to half empty paint tins that may come in handy one day
My wife puts me under pressure to clean out the garage about every two years or so. When I finally go at it I continue to run across things that I considered to be useful in the future, I generally keep them as they have not lost their potential for being useful, I just rearrange think so the garage look better and my wife is happy.
Yes spot on about the hording.
I have random bits of wood and other useful stuff all over the place.
This despite a blitz on the garage recently (Oh wait, that was about 10 years ago.)
Throwing things away is just wasteful! I have some door frame timber that has moved house with me three times in the past 32 years. I know that it will come in handy soon :-)
Cheers,
Nigel
My Dad is a hoarder so I went the other way - stuff goes to the tip on a regular basis - cannot stand clutter.
I have been collecting motorcycles and parts for twenty years, filled a 20ft container. Then about a year ago I started selling off the stuff in the same boxs as delivered in, some unopened, bikes I have never touched. Now only a couple bikes and half dozen boxs left. Only trouble is I now collect watches, at least they fit into a much smaller box
I spent two days with a large van, clearing dad's garage when he became too ill to do anything else. We had to clear the house so that mum could move into something smaller when he went into a care home. Several trips to the dump (paying full commercial rate because we were in a truck) a skip and a passing scrap man all helping! I have vowed to keep my hoarding to a minimum but my wife keeps saying that it's starting to look like dads again! :(
