Beautiful!!!
What a superb mod!
I couldn't resist....
Nice mod bofff, can I ask where you got that bezel from? Was it from a guy in Russia by the name of petrs?I think he was on WUS as he does a nice cast case back for the Amphibians too.

My new ones
110 case skin diver:
120 case military style:
Currently these 120 cases are my favourite, especially with a boris bezel.
Great mods and brilliant photos.
Thanks for that, from memory it was a couple of years ago he used to sell them on EBay, they where just a bit different to the normal ones.I believe he made the cast bezels in different colours too, I particularly liked the case back.
Always looking for ideas............cheers.
Great work Mr wotsch, your experimentation and reportage is most inspiring. I'm thinking of panning in 80% of the collection and sticking to boctoks for the next year
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Looks like a great planet okeah ^^^
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Very nice! That insert is a great choice. I have this dial in a 100 case. I particularly like the blue second hand. Just waiting for some bezels and inserts to arrive for it and thinking whether or not to have the case sandblasted.
Yes, pers184 is his username on WUS. See here, here, here and here for example. He makes various bezel designs to order via the WUS PM system. I have a couple on order at the moment. It can take him quite some time to get around to your order, but it's always been well worth the wait. He also sells occasionally on eBay under the username "3-99626".
Thanks! A couple more are in the making, but it's hard to find time during the summer...

Only some minor work. Ordered a different Vostok bezel than the usual 420, stripped the chrome. Brushed the case and fitted a blue Timefactors canvas strap.
Very robust and comfortable watch
As predicted, summer got in the way of watch-fiddling, so I had to wait until an enforced Saturday afternoon indoors with a cold to get back to the next mod.
This 100 came in from meranom a few months ago:

ed335d swapped the dial on his one over to a 090 case, with stunning results (up above), but I prefer the 100 case. I didn't really have a particular look in mind for the bezel/inlay combination, so I tried just about every combination I could with the bezels and inlays I'd accumulated in my bits box:
Vostok Amphibia 100 by wotsch2, on Flickr
After this comparison, the candidates were the blue inlay with the Murphy bezel (first row #2), the plain black one with the Murphy bezel (third row #4), the plain silver one with with the Boris bezel (fourth row #1), the Silver Mariner with the Boris bezel (fourth row #3) and the grey pers184 bezel (fourth row #4).
What I found rather interesting, in a nerdy way, was how the different bezels - the Boris bezel and the Murphy bezel - bring out the inlays. The Boris bezel has quite a fine rim compared to the Murphy bezel. I think that the lighter inserts look much better with the Boris bezel with the more subtle rim whereas the Murphy bezel gives a darker insert a more balanced look.
After much back and forth, I settled on the Silver Mariner (just ahead of the two plain ones) together with a vintage-look brown leather strap. The result:

I think it turned out quite well.

That mod looks superb, very striking design.
Great mod.
Sadly over the summer the orange-yellow dial became bronze (exposure to the sun) so I will have to replace it when I find some time
I installed a Komandirskie movement and blue dial into the Soki "Sub-a-like" gmt type case.
The result is better than I expected.
The Amphibia is standard, on a polished lumpy bracelet.
SOme stunning Vostoks there. Here's mine:
^^^^ Now those are proper mods. Fantastic!
After selling three of my 090-cased mods, I had the funds to start my next project. I had a few parts ready and a very particular idea of the mod I wanted to make. As soon as I found the right donor watch on offer, everything came together.
The base is the dial (and movement) from one of meranom's special editions, a 120SE. In itself a beautiful watch but the 120 case is too small for my liking:

The dial and movement was transferred to a 100 case, which I had bead-blasted by a member of a German forum. With a bezel from the watchuseek member pers184, which I ordered with a grey colouring, I'm very, very pleased with the result:

The SE sandwich dial is simply wonderful:

I think this is my favourite mod so far.

My first efforts, keeping it simple but happy with the results for now. I have aspirations to create a wotsch style masterpiece, but that going to be a long way off!
Can you see what I did there?
The 'Curta' Amphibia

I presented my Doxtok mod here some time ago: click.
Although pretty pleased with the way it turned out, there was one small thing that irritated me: The red second hand and the orange of the bezel inlay weren't working together. It might not seem like much, but this bothered me considerably.
So, when an orange second hand became available while working on a mod for my missus, the chance came to fix things:

Much better. Now I'm happy with it.

A small change, but what a difference. Excellent result
Some lovely Vostoks here!
Here's mine:
I used to like it a lot, but lately I no longer wear it.
I've got a bit of a problem on this front...
Bought this with the intention of modding it:
But it's so handsome in the flesh I can't see much to change.
Perhaps the standard dot bezel repainted to be blue and a mesh bracelet
You are quite correct KNog, it is very smart as it is. However, I couldn't resist playing around with mine... With a plain bezel (see post #82, the bezel that it came with is on the white faced Amphibia), and here with a Dagaz chestnut insert and perlon strap.
But it's nice to know that I can revert to the original very easily.
I love these sandwich dials. They do look fantastic unmodded, but they look even better modded. ^That's lovely.
Here's the result of my latest Amphibia project, this time for my better half. An old 420 with a nice dial and a broken movement had been waiting for repair and, after a long wait, a new movement and set of hands arrived from Chistopol today. Together with a plain steel Boris-bezel and a grey leather strap, it's turned into a nice, robust, day-to-day watch for my long-suffering missus.

Very nice Wotsch, the subtle use of pink makes for a feminine touch. I´ve been trying to persuade Mrs P that she needs a Vostock but so far no joy.
You could try persuading her by just handing over the finished object... :-)
It's often been simply the bezels that put me off Vostoks but this thread is a real inspiration. Great stuff here. The comparison photos in particular are a terrific resource to get ideas from.
