Why do people wear a dive watch when diving?

This morning Mr Globe Fish asked me the time, so I looked at my computer and dive watch.

Only one of them could tell me the time without needing to scroll to an alternate display ;-)

Young Mr Pt Jackson Shark didn't care what time it was because sharks are the Chuck Norris of the oceans

    :-)

Which is why he's wearing a dive watch so there is no need to change the display on the "thingy". As he said in his post.

Always good to see a watch being used as designed.

Why is the time important when diving?

Good idea to have the watch as a backup if computer fails, even for decomp in the old fashion way.

I had an appointment following the morning dive (a buyer coming to see a car I am selling), so yes, I needed to keep an eye on my time. I ended the dive at around 80 mins with 100bar in the tank because I didn't want to be late.

Tracking time is as important when diving as it is when not diving.

Why is an appointment less important if I dive?

Our posts keep crossing (and I deleted my post) but okay, can see your point.

I was thinking of the few divers I know who do it on holiday or a special trip. They would never have anything else to rush back for!

I'm fortunate to live on the coast so I can squeeze a shore dive in between other things. The site I dived on in those pics is only 20mins from my house.

Same reason they were a Pilot's watch when flying😄
    Kiddin aside, great pics.

Nice Orient. I've got an m-force, but seeing your photos makes me want to 'upgrade' to its bigger brother.

Resurfacing time for departure when on a boat, same for collection by RIB, pick-up by land transport, dive centre requirement for cylinder recharging, tide times, time until sunset (photography thing) and most important of all: when the bar’s open.

Great pics. I always wear a watch too - sometimes when diving you just want to know the time...

    Thanks guys.

I'll mention the Hirsch Extreme on the Orient. Its perfect for that watch. Its the first rubber strap I've had that balanced the Orient so well. Its also a very good dive strap having used it on several dives now. It makes me wonder if I would bother with spending even more on an Isofrane.

I have to admit that when I go snorkelling I wear a watch for the sheer novelty of being able to see the hands go around when it's a mere 2 feet under water. I may never get to 300 metres but I want some value from the watch. Maybe I also might look a bit cooler on the beach.

Diving is a great hobby/pastime but i'll only go to 300 metres if I'm buried at sea!
