    The rolex range...

Are there any fans out there of some of the more "blingy" rolex?

Thinking of this kind of thing and others of the same ilk.

For my taste the 'cheap' bottom of the range stainless subs/gmt/explorers look nice. The further up the range they go and the more the cost the less i like them.

Maybe i should just be glad im happy with a 4k watch rather than 14k.

Anyone a fan of the bling? I guess someone must buy 'em.

Nothing wrong with a bit of bi-metal or even the solid gold / platinum ones. They are what they are and have been stalwarts of the collection for decades. If you think they are 'bling', you have lead a sheltered life :)

I only really object when they start jewel encrusting them and you move into a place where the cost vs the horology ratio is just awful.

I have had the pleasure of wearing, what I consider to be one of Rolex's most classic & iconic timepieces, a 36mm Y/G Daydate president bracelet with concealed clasp.

It's a beautiful watch to look at and wear.

So, in that case, I have no problems, though cover it with diamonds etc and that becomes a different matter!

It the link that you show, though not a fan of bi-metal, I would certainly not entertain that particular model, as, imo, the Submariner is a tool watch and should only be made in S/S.

Who goes diving NOT swimming, wearing a precious metal watch?

    Depends for me...

Rose gold Daytona on leather is gorgeous.

Solid gold sub/GMT looks atrocious, more an extension of your pahllus than a watch, but i do appreciate that is just my particular tastes! (in watches not phalluses...)

All gold only for day date

TT for me is only cool on the dressier ones like the date just.

Sports watches for me are steel/titanium or not at all.

NEVER diamonds on a man's watch. Under any circumstances!

The only gold Rolex I'd wear would be a 36mm Day Date in about 20 years from now. I'm no fan of bi-metal either. SS all the way for me.

I have never been a fan of the Daytona, dial too busy for my tastes until I saw this one
Platinum with ice blue face and brown ceramic bezel, unfortunately I'm about £50k short at the moment

Yes, the two tone blue dial Sub in particular greatly appeals to me, more than any standard Sub and more than all-gold Subs.

Because it's not as large as it appears in most pictures (especially the 16613 and earlier) I think it is not excessively blingy but still pleasingly gawdy. ;-)

I'd not buy new but I quite fancy a second hand 16803 or 16613.

This sums up the rules for the bling imo

I'd generally agree but I have a West End homage to the Rolex Day-Date with diamond (well, cut glass, probably) markers and it is in fact not over-blingy. So diamonds can work... sometimes.

I agree with you, the more they try to look expensive, the less I like them, but they must make them that way for a reason! Clearly not everyone wants 'subtle' when they buy a Rolex, so if you do you can consider yourself lucky, as some of the best looking models will also be the most affordable.

I agree, bought a black dialled TT sub a couple of years ago when I had the chance. Started wearing it more recently and have grown to love it, especially the dial which is really eye catching. It gets out of the box often these days. I imagine these remain a bargain compared to the SS models so represent great buying.

    Here! Here!

No matter how much I try that is the combo I am going to have to try. Just think it looks lovely and not 'too' much.

    Blue or black 16613?

The best of both: had it on the blue for a decade, then gave it a face-over:

+1....I have several bimetal watches in my collection, I`m a big fan. I prefer them to full gold......and I certainly prefer the prices

As bling goes, it is subtle and a classic. I'd go a bit more 'stealth' in either 18ct WG or Pt. with a matching or black dial. For me there's always been something about the Presidential bracelet and the hidden clasp as well as the day-date display.
