    Tiger Concepts 6538 homage

I thought that it would be fun to track down a Sub 6538 'Bond' homage.

I looked at some threads on various forums about Tiger Concept watches that indicated that they were pretty good for the money so thought that I would give it a go. Looking at the TC website I was slightly disappointed that there wasnt a Bond - Goldfinger type Sub homage listed - however, I then discovered that the TC owner is happy to build to order using any dial and hands in his range. I also read some really good feedback on WUS regarding his service so thought that I would give his 6538 'big crown' a go. At around £70 delivered I ordered 2 - one with a 369 dial the other more in keeping with the Bond theme. This is with the DG2813 auto hacking movement - they are available with an ETA movement for an extra £40 or so but having read good reports on the former I thought that I would stick with this, see which one I liked the most and then sell the other one.

When they arrived I was impressed with the quality at this price level. OK the bezels turn a bit too freely but everything else feels ok - smooth crown, good finish and so far, good timekeeping. I decided to keep the one nearer to the Bond film version and sell the other - which went pretty quickly on SC a little earlier this evening.

OK, its hardly a Steinhart but it is closer to the classic Sub's 39mm case size and looks pretty good to me.

I had one of these too. I particularly liked the impressive water resistance.

It also had the non-ETA clone movement, but it suffered from a stuttering second hand--apparently a common symptom of the second hand being indirectly driven, or something like that. Although it didn't affect the timekeeping at all, I'd keep looking out for the stutter, which bothered me enough to move it on.

Apart from that it was a great watch. Yes the bezel is ratcheted, and the depth claim is laughable, but it looked good, was very well finished for the price level, and was overall a fun little watch.

Ive put it on a black leather vintage style strap - not quite the same as the one in Dr No and From Russia With Love but fairly close.....

Looks great Ian a nice bit of fun, particularly like the retro vibe.I bet these would look great after the dial was baked to create an aged look, are these plexi domed?
    Must take a look sometime.

The gold hands and brown dial above didn't look quite right to me

Thought that I would try silver and black

Here it is on one of Eddies RAF pattern Natos

(Sorry for the poor iphone pictures)

I have to say I've always been an Omega man but I am being seduced those vintage Sub homages. Going to have to look into that!

Interesting to note that the bezel on this one is stiffer then the previous two. This one doesn't need any dental floss to stop it turning at the lightest touch

I think I ended up with your old chocolate dialled watch, I really miss it but it was just a bit too small for me, apart from that it was a great looking watch.

I find it right on the upper limit of how big I can go!

Anyone ever tried swimming in one of these? I fancy one as a holiday watch.

I have a 44mm Tiger Concept that is a homage to the DSSD. For the price I have absolutely no complaints. Big case, matt dial, white unlined markers, sapphire crystal and stainless band. Plus the previous owner swapped out the ETA clone for the real thing from a Hamilton. The second hand is now smooth as butter and starts moving the moment you pick up the watch. Never been pressure tested, but it holds up to a good shower and a dip in the ultra-sonic cleaner. Which is enough for me.

I email William Woo direct without going through the website

    pretiger@gmail.com

Hes a helpful chap and will swap dials and bands around at no extra cost. The dial on my latest one is not shown on the 6358's on the site its from one of the other models. Each one Ive ordered has arrived from Hong Kong in less than a week with no customs charges
