    Don't be daft.

If someone like Johnny Depp chooses something unusual, and deliberately un-ostentatious like a Vostok, it demonstrates they have at least a passing interest in watches. Which is worth mentioning here.

You could find an unlimited number of celebrities wearing current Rolexes, Omegas, and Breitlings, and it doesn't demonstrate anything that we didn't already know, because these are obvious, default choices for people with money, who want to show it.

Or, they could be choices for people with money, who want to show it, and who are into watches.....

Yes, of course they could be. That's why I said it doesn't demonstrate anything.

Or that's just what the stylist told him to put on for this photo shoot.

Nah, it's his own. I've seen him wearing it on other occasions.

He's probably into watches ,otherwise he would never hear of Vostok ,he looks a lot cooler than any boxer with a pimped up ap

As I said earlier this year:

Johnny has always gone his own way and wears what he wants to. You'll sometimes see him wearing a Rolex, sometimes a Vostok and sometimes some more unusual pieces like a Juvenia Protractor watch.

Not famous in the UK but John Meyer is a big watch person (and got into a bit of legal bother buying what might be faked watches):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeu6Vj3M0EI

Quite a few others don't seem to give a chuff....

Washington takes off his wristwatch – a chunky Audemars Piguet – and bangs it against the table, giving me what could be interpreted as his mean stare.]

Is that a weapon or are you telling me my time’s up?

DW: No, but I mean … a backhand … with this.

Is that why you carry it around?

DW: Free watch. Wife said: “Oh they want you to wear it.”

AF: That’s the first time I’ve seen you wear any jewellery.

DW: I liked it ’cos it had the rubber wristband. Wasn’t too posh. Kind of upscale, but comfortable.

Do you get a lot of free stuff?

DW: [Unconvincingly] No! There’s nothing free in this world.

Meyer writes a lot for Hodinkee.

Also. Ah. Aspiration as a slur. How novel.

You're being deliberately obtuse, in order to provoke a reaction. In other words: trolling.

"While President of the United States, Barak Obama, wore a Tag Heuer when he was a Senator, he now sports a special edition Jorg Gray 6500 Chronograph manufactured exclusively for the U.S. Secret Service - which was a gift to the President from the elite group for his 46th birthday. A true American value at $350!" (from celebritywatches)

So you can tell who is a member of the Secret Service by their watch! Who knew?

Nobody; that was the secret ;-)

Very much like the discussions in the wake of Bond about what a spy would really wear.

Anyone secret would wear what blends in with the role.

It applies to Obama too btw. In his role the affordable proud to be american watch is a must today. He can wear whichever foreign made luxury good or even a Casio 'terrorist watch' when he is retired.

What has always impressed me most about this story is that not only does he have the kind of relationship with his body guards which leads them to club together and buy him a birthday gift, but he is also a person who is then proud to openly wear it. Actually, thinking about it the two are probably related.

Not really he was mislead by a supposed expert in the field. A lot of posters here wear Vostok & many others does it make Johnny Depp a more important figurehead for you because he does so?

For the newer members Zilla's posts are mostly jealousy and borderline hate but his added knowledge in regards to watches leaves you in amazement that he can hate them...and all because of a brand name.

Just for balance here's Johnny Depp with his Rolex. And the fellow on the left is Terry "I am not a rapist" Richardson.
Whats does that tell us? Actually, nothing.

Yes, an intellectual, which in combination with wearing a Seiko makes no friends with the well mannered, ahum, folk over here.

Meanwhile I am REALLY enjoying this thread guys.
The difference with one of someone post a thirteen a dozen photo of a 'star' wearing an Omepanro is illuminating.
Newbies can indeed learn a lot. It gives them a more complete picture of brand added value than regurgitated marketing blurp only.

Also meanwhile still raining on the mud here so I can justify wearing a REAL world rugged dive watch again

Sounds like that legend has grown a bit. Only Brian May went to Imperial. The video was recorded at Elstree Studios.
