Thread: The Incoming / New Arrival Thread

  1. #3001
Just picked up this 114270 this week.

Really enjoying it since I always wanted the 3-6-9 dial on a Rolex.

    Edit:

Oh look, PB have ransomed my account! They want me to upgrade to the tune of $399. Lol.

If you are a Photobucket user, what ever you do, don't answer the annoying little pop up questionnaire if you are using desktop, otherwise they will do this...

Ordered this on Tuesday and arrived first thing Wednesday (thanks Eddie) but this is the first outing.

I love the unusual "winder" position at 12.

I've changed the NATO from plain black.

Nice, how do you find the crown if you have to use it ?

Easy! I wear my watches on my right wrist, quick flick with my left thumb nail and it's easy to change "on wrist"

Thanks! You're right, it's 36mm, and it even came with the box and papers from the 50s!

I'm going to bring the tone of this thread down to rock bottom now, with this little sub-thingy I picked up last night. It was looking a bit worse for the ware when I picked it up and the bezel was free wheeling both ways. Thought it would be an ideal carefree holiday beater.

Given it a quick clean/polish/brush and sorted the bezel.
In actual fact, take the brand name out the equation and it's a fair amount of watch for the money. I know Invicta make a lot of monstrosities and rightfully get a lot of flak (their dubious RRPs don't do them any favours either).. but their pro-diver range are actually pretty decent beaters.
This one is an early 9937 model with Saphire glass, Swiss auto movement (apparently Sellita SW200.. although it could be an ETA 2824.. not sure), 200m rated with screw down crown, a cyclops which actually magnifies and solid end links (I'll stick to the NATO for holiday I think).

    Andy.

Heuer Cortina 510.513 powered by a Lemania 5100.

The dial is stunning....but I might need to change the strap.

Had a choice between these…. It was a much tougher call than I was expecting as the orange sub dial really pops on the grey finish

But, went for this and he even through in a change of strap!

Picked up today - one of only 2 modern watches that I own; but, I really love it!

Just picked up this really nice little (36mm) JDM manual wind Citizen Homer Date from 1965. The cyclops is under the crystal, which is my preference, if one has to be used. Could do with a bit of polywatch, but ready to wear pretty much.

What are your first impressions ? Keeping or flipping ?

..Speedie has taken over leather strap duty so tried my Zulu 'premium' bond nato on it for fun, like it more than I thought I would.

Thanks to Wooster's generosity, I've just been surprised by this arrival

It's a Seiko Spirit SBCA001, and will definitely find a gap to fill in my rather small collection of five mechanicals and three quartz, (the other two being a bright orange Swatch and a 42mm Casio chronograph) It's 37mm by 8.5mm and has 100m WR and a perfectly placed date window.

When I have a new battery put in, I'll have the bracelet fitted, and will make another attempt at getting on with bracelets. In the past their slipping and sliding around so much got on my nerves, but perhaps I'm a bit more patient now. We'll see 😊

Wooster sent you that as a surprise? Excellent! That (and the whole Grenfell Raffle) is the kind of generosity we can all aspire to. Lots of back slapping is in order. You too Amf. A deserved prize if there ever was one. Hope you enjoy it.

Yes, he added that to the parcel containing the Junghans :) Reminds me of my brother's birthdays when I was a tiny kid, getting a consolation present.

From Googling I get the impression that this watch is now discontinued. From my pov it's the perfect field watch - quartz, discreet size, proper WR. As Meijlinder said, it only could be improved by having a perpetual calendar function hidden away. And if I can't get on with an Oyster bracelet on a light quartz watch... There are three positions on the clasp, so I can have it fitted nice and snug, and if that proves a little too close I can it let it out on that. Right? Spot someone who's never bothered to read a thing about bracelets! 😂

Second new arrival (also just new 'to me' not new) is this Glycine Airman Quartz 24 823.111 from the 80s. The first two-tone watch I've bought in many a year. Small at 35(ish)mm, but works well on a NATO IMO.

Amongst all the Speedy shenanigans my holiday watch arrived. Such fantastic value

Edit: Hmmm, HDR filter on phone seems to have destroyed the gold highlights.
EdiT: Can't find a good representative photo online either. That's maybe why I didn't even consider this one before I saw it in the flesh - it looks great

Worse (apparently). Decent alignment seems rare full stop. That model looks great on brown leather.
