The originals had calibre L595 based on the eta2000. This one is now an L592.5* which is an eta A20.L11. Improvements include bi-directional winding, longer power reserve and silicon hairspring. Not sure what else is different but I have read that it’s an improved movement. So far this one is +-0spd since 7pm last night. Watch is very nicely finished and extremely comfortable on the wrist.

*I believe the L592.2 with steel hairspring was used in some watches after the eta2000 but before the l592.5

Collected this the other day. A Panerai I have wanted for such a long time. A 217 Marina Militare - really happy with it.

Added a brand new original strap to it, suits it better than the strap.

I've always loved the Hamilton 7750 models. Some were very wacky! The X-Copter in particular.

Reduced from £197 to £43, this Mondaine 40mm with blue dial arrived today. I had a brand new bracelet laying about so I tried it on and it fits a treat...

Issue is I don't know how to take nice photos, lighting is terrible as well. Watch is phenomenal. Phenomenal. But my pics make it look like something from Argos.

I put it away after collecting in November, but have just noticed the clasp isn't centred on the bracelet. There are 4 links on one side and 7 on the other- I would've assumed it would be equal? Or am I overlooking something?!

    Congratulations!
Would love the same for my 40th, such a fantastic piece.

Arrived today - its a beauty!

Def a looker compared to my NTTD version due to the shiny steel and blue wave dial.

Very nice! As is the Credor. The Fratello article on this caught my eye - lovely watch Ryan.

I have been patiently waiting for this TR660 for three months and it is even better than I expected. The case is 40mm, bead blasted, with a double domed sapphire crystal, sapphire insert and regulated NE15 movement. As I ordered it in November 23, there is an added bonus as it doesn't count against my vague commitment to the 2024 Watch Abstinence thread!

I really like the design of those. It may be the only watch I know where I favour the quartz over the mechanical for its 2 seconds stop at 12. I just wish they had enough water resistance to match my reasonably watery lifestyle ( dog walking regardless of weather, swimming, doing the dishes )

This new incoming unites my two passions: Ebel watches and BMW motorbikes!

This watch is from 1993 and is a numbered limited edition of 500,.it represents 70 years of BMW Motorrad.

It has a BMW logo on the dial, and replaces Paris with Munich, the home of BMW!

That is the main problem with Mondaine. 30m maximum really isn't great.

The Stop2Go movement is something else, I was tempted, but this normal quartz is just fine for me.

Just picked up one of these, Steinhart Ocean 500 GMT. I had one for about a year, really liked it, took it traveling round America in the summer and then when I got back I sold it and instantly regretted it. Found one at a good price from a good seller on eBay, less than 2 years old and the listing included a vid of the watch on a timegrapher keeping very accurate time.

I really like it as it’s a proper sporty holiday watch. Yes, heavily influenced by the Rolex model, but the bezel markings are different (plus bezel is lumed), it has printed indices, totally different handset, a cushioned chapter ring and date at 6. More than enough original design elements to make it its own thing, 500m WR, an Elabore grade ETA GMT, display case back and for me easily Steinharts best watch. They discontinued this SS model last year and now make this in Ti instead, which I’m not as keen on so am glad to have picked this up.

I’ve been meaning to post some pictures of this recent arrival from microbrand Marnaut for a while, but it’s proved quite hard to photograph. It really comes alive in brightly spot-lit environments that show off the 60s Grand Seiko inspired case, and sea urchin inspired dial, but these conditions aren’t great for a smart phone camera.

The vintage GS derived case is a good plan, as the ‘grammar of design’ keeps the 39mm wearable and pleasingly wrist hugging. While it’s 13.2mm thick, a fair amount of that is the domed sapphire crystal that keeps out 100m of water, disappearing from most angles and creating a pleasantly flat look, but giving it a distinctly nautical and curving feeling in profile. Inside there’s an SW200, where you might expect to find something less convincing in this price bracket, and there’s a screw down crown. Clearly Marnaut want to make a real, practical dressy diver here.

Obviously the real star of the show is that ‘sea urchin’ dial, in a glossy piano black, with C3 lume in all the batons and pips on the dial. This element is very well executed, they look clean and precise and catch the light beautifully. I can even forgive them splitting ‘automatic’ over two lines, one of those things I wasn’t sure about in closeup, but in real life looks balanced. Overall this unusual dial looks surprisingly classy in real life. It’s also incredibly refreshing to see an original idea, and not just a ‘me too’ mixture of over-familiar faux vintage themes.

The only negative is the supplied strap and buckle, clearly all the love went into the watch itself - I’ve changed it in these photos. However with 20mm lugs there’s plenty of room to play. There was also, surprisingly, a very decent additional branded mesh strap hidden away at the bottom of the box, where I doubt many will have found it. Also while it’s nice to have an SW200, it could do with regulating to make the most of it. Finally the price, these come in at €549 (though expect VAT on arrival), so given the specs it’s punching above its weight. I’ve yet to decide if it’s a keeper as 39mm is borderline on my spaghetti sized wrists, and I’m not really a diver at heart - I assume it would be spot on for most though.

Less of an incoming and more of an inheritance. This was my father's watch (one of many but the last one he bought). I had to clean it up and put it on a new strap but it has scrubbed up rather well.

The sharp eyed of you will have noticed the top bar is not OEM. This watch came with screwed bars and, during a strap change, Dad must have lost one of the screws. Now, typical of his character and his abilities, instead of contacting MWC for a spare he must have gone to his voluminous workshop and foundation suitable replacement. Heaven knows what the original use of the replacement is but one end is knurled and the other has a swelling. It is the correct diameter as I can't see any working to enlarge the lug holes and the swollen portion creates a friction fit to stop it falling out. Although I now have it on a NATO just in case, I doubt it will ever fail. His "bodges" were synonymous with quality and longevity.

For most of my life I only remember him wearing Casio LCDs of some form or another which he wore to destruction. He never threw anything away so I expect, when my Mum gets to it, she will find a box full of them. Part of me hopes there might be the odd treasure in that box but this one will be enough for me.
