Panerai Monopulsante... what should I do?!

A long-time "grail" has been the Panerai Monopulsante. They're limited, as are most Panerai but they do seem to be very rare. In the year or so that the watch has peaked my interest, I've only seen three or four for sale in the UK.

Yesterday, I spotted one that had just gone up for sale, and now I don't know what to do. I've heard of issues in the past with the first ones, but this would have warranty from a well known used dealer.

    Any opinions on these watches?

    Here's an image of one...

...and it's the features that I love:

    - 24 hour timezone hand which works like a 12 hour hand and has a day/night indicator
    - 30 min chrono with start/stop/reset via one pusher
    - Seconds reset when you pull the crown out
    - Quick-change strap system
    - Domed sapphire crystal
    - 100M WR
    - 8 day movement with PR indicator
    - Powerful lume
    - Clear case-back

    http://www.panerai.com/en/collection...s-gmt-pam00275

It just appears on paper to be one of those amazing all-rounders but there's probably no such thing as that.

    It's fabulous!

Plus, I love to live vicariously through the purchases of members braver than I!

And, since you live just down the road from me (literally), I can have a nice little look at it in the flesh!

I suppose it depends on the price. If you can sell it on without taking a massive kick in the balls then why not?

    Go for it!!

Not a Panerai fan but this one does it for me👍
If I was wanting one this would be the one! If your asking the question on here then unless you get it you will always regret it!! Ive missed out on too many watches in the past because of overthinking it!! If I want it and can afford it I get it and as this place has proven in the past even if you cant afford it someone offers you a payment plan!!😄
Post the pics once it arrives!!!

It is, without doubt, one of the ugliest and silliest watches 'designed' during the Big Watch Era, which - thank Goodness - is coming to an end.

A few years from now, it will be unsellable and laughable.

No, that's wrong. It already is laughable.

He's almost as tactful as me! The OP did ask for opinions.

As for me, and being tactful, it's not one of their finest designs, and I don't like Panerai.

I was thinking it looked rather nice, until the side shot - it just doesn't look quite right to me.

At least I got rid of my purple car. Today I'm wearing my Omega 120c Big Blue, which I reckon is a classic design. It's quite possible when it was new it was considered big and ugly.

It's a fine watch with a star movement and a lot of wrist presence. It also manages to retain the heritage design ethos. Buy it.

No it isn't. It's your opinion that it is all of the above, just as someone else clearly would think otherwise.

For me Wayne, the simpler a Panerai dial the better so it's certainly not for me.

If a friend said, 'Should I buy this watch? What do you think?', I'd say what I've written above.

That watch would be a silly buy.

Okay, let's make the analogy a little more accurate, and pretend that also present were a few other friends, some of whom owned and/or were wearing said watch and felt some affection towards it.

Would you still say what you've written above? If so, I'd have you marked as borderline sociopath.

Yet another thread that's moved from the original opinion requested to a side spat anyways IMO being a Panerai fan I think it's a super piece and given the funds I would take the plunge and I do think it will retain its value but I presume that is not the OP's primary concern.

To be fair, the OP asked for "any opinions on this watch" to which Tinker gave his. He didn't say "please tell me how amazing you think this watch is", he asked for opinions.

Personally, I think it looks really nice but given what I'm sure it will cost there would be other watches I'd buy before it

    Thanks all, well, mostly all

Yeah so far so very good!! It's a big watch of course, but the strap still has a curve around my wrist rather than just dropping perpendicular. The crystal is the most amazing I've ever owned!! It has an amazing dome like I've never seen before.

I'll get some photos up asap

personally i like it, but what matters is your opinion and if you'll get a thrill from wearing it and everytime you glance at it, it's with every penny

It was more a case of... fancy heading somewhere that will take up the rest of the day and you won't get anything out of it, other than my happiness darling... to my girlfriend. How could she refuse?

We all know that modern prices for watches are high, but then in the grand scheme of things, when there's watches around for several million pounds, it's not really relevant; especially when you're so overtly against this particular watch.

The model I have also has the nicer "dot dial" which is the version most people that buy this watch try to go for.

Secondly, the image you've listed there is from this watch:

This watch features the PR indicator only on the movement, whereas the the one I have features it on the front. Each model therefore only has one PR indicator.

    Thank you for your contribution.

What I like about Pani is simplicity and clean minimalist design, any additional hands, dials etc are just no no for me personally.. YMMV.

I loved my 000 when I had that. It was so simplistic in its design and incredibly easy to read the time on. However, I'm happy to deviate from tradition when I get the features I want/need, and have found reading the time on this new watch as easy as the 000. You can hide the GMT hand behind the main hour hand, plus the hands really do stand out much better in reality compared to photos.

I'm really very pleased with the watch so far, can you tell?!
