    2 Sims, 1 Number

Is it possible in the UK to have two sims with one number, rather than swap my sim from my dog walking phone to my daily phone, if I could just use the same number and switch one off and the other on as required?

I do not think so as I enquired about this re my I pad and phone and was told it is classed as having another account

I stand to be proved wrong.

Assume the dogging phone is one you don't mind using with dirty hands?

Maybe a waterproof case for your main phone?

Not possible afaik, as the other poster said it counts as another account.

You used to be able to do this with some providers, it was called multisim. I had it because I had a mobile and a car phone, both on the same number and account.

However, I seem to recall this was phased out some years ago. Might be worth asking though.

Whilst not wanting to dismiss the humour element, it stands as a serious question as it seems it is available in other parts of Europe

maybe if I had 2 sims with only one number it would be more difficult for GCHQ to keep tabs on me?

    Dogging phone? Really?

Does it have an extra bright screen that you can flash to indicate availability?

Why do you need a different phone for walking a dog, just out of interest?

    Dual SIM might be handy.

Vodafone still do this on business accounts - two sims associated with the same account and whichever phone gets turned on last is the one that is active on that number.

It's useful for on-call people like plumbers where someone else takes over at the end of a shift.

Dual sim phone is the way to go I think, separate phone books/ ringtones etc.

Not just for walking the dog, I have an old phone that I don't mind getting damaged for when I'm working on houses, painting rooms, repointing my house (current DIY project) whereas if I'm doing a sales training sessions, attending meetings, out for the evening, away for the weekend I prefer to carry something less tatty, some of us don't work on the 33rd floor of the Gherkin doing nothing more risky than ordering sushi and avoiding desk diving marks on our DSSD, it would be nice not to have to swap my sim from one phone to the other.

    Dangerous stuff.

I suggest getting a mobile device with extended battery, some Pot Noodles and moving into the cellar. Send me your number and if all is safe in a months time, I’ll call and let you know.

Not really; he wants one number on two phones. Dual Sim gives him two numbers on one phone.

An interesting question. What would happen if you called your provider and told them your SIM was knackered. They would normally send out a new one with same number. If you put that in another phone would it work?

You must be right but if you are walking the dog/decorating/doing man stuff, will you be likely to be making calls or do you just want to be contactable when otherwise busy?

Why would it matter if you call these people from a different number? Surely the idea is that those calling your number reach you on one of your two phones.

2 numbers 2 contracts, and the need to carry 2 phones or having to tell people which phone I'm using at any given time,,,,,,,,,,

I guess you would need to clone your SIM, like most international criminals in movies do.

Look at this, but am not sure how doable it is:

    http://www.ehow.com/how_4770451_clone-sim-card.html

It' of course important to check if it is legal in UK. Certainly the provider will not like it, but if you only switch-on one at a time will be OK.

My point was that using call forward from phone number 1 to phone number 2, you could always be reached on both phones by those calling the number of phone one (the one number you would like to use). What number people see when you call them from phone number 2 when walking your dog doesn't matter really. Of course it doesn't solve the 2 contracts bit.

Don't think it is possible with modern V2 SIMs (since ~2001). Certainly illegal in the US, don't know about UK.
