    Patek Aquanaut decisions...

I have an opportunity to purchase either Travel time or the Rose gold version.
Price would be basically the same.
I'm leaning towards Travel time at the moment but I keep changing my mind!

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks for your opinions.

And photos on both. Photos from google.

    Travel time

    and

    Rose gold

    Patek Aquanaut decisions...

It's a great position to be in.

To me, it depends on how you're going to use it. If you're going to wear it as a special occasion watch then go for gold. If, on the other hand, it's to be a daily wearer then go for the steel.

The rose gold on a dark brown strap (similar colour to some Panerai dials) would be my preference.

The Nautilus is better than either.

In the flesh, they don't come even close.

The brown rubber just looks wrong to me - I wanted to like the watch, but just couldn't.
It's just a matter of time...

5990 would be the only Nautilus I'd be interested.
To me the design looks a bit outdated.

The travel time is great, it's also a Patek complication. I'd rather spend the cash on the complication as opposed to a precious metal.
The rose gold makes the aquanaut more dressy but it's still a casual watch, personally I'm not keen. If I were after a dressy watch Id got for a nautilus, an all rounder then go for the 5164.

We're out of my league, so my opinion might be worthless, but I think the Aquanaut is a sporty watch any way you look at it. I have never really understood the idea of a sports watch in gold. I have to admit that I'm not too keen on gold at all, but I think it is becoming in dress watches. For those reasons I would go for the travel time.

Cannot agree with this, the Aquanuat holds much more appeal for me. Just don't get the "ears" on the Nautilus, they spoil the watch for me.

A very idle question (sorry) but how much would an aquanaught set someone back, secondhand?

I really like the Aquanaut but out of my league, i prefer steel watches, i don't really like gold watches i like the complication, so for me it would be an easy decision..................the rose gold as it is absolutely glorious looking.

The Travel Time is a fantastic watch, and I'd probably go for that over the RG you're considering. That said, the Aquanaut does look very nice in RG and I guess the question is whether you like that variant in rubber enough to buy it. I love it myself so for me it would be a tough choice.

A quick browse through my link didn't show any second hand Travel Times, but the grey dealers seem to fetch about £20k unworn.

I tried on the rose gold Aquanaut whilst deciding which watch I wanted to get for my 40th, I was very impressed with it, lovely weight to it, looked very classy, and the chocolate brown strap although unusual somehow suit it really well.

For the same money though i'd be more inclined to go for the complication rather than the rose gold case...

The 'ears' are a hinge, of course, and represent the hinge of a porthole. Literal and unimaginative, perhaps, but, when you wear a Nautilus, they make it really three-dimensional and eye-catching.

What decision to be able to take. I am normally a big fan of rose gold, even in larger watches, but I think this time I would take the travel time. It's a casual watch and you're getting a patek complication - which just makes it feel a bit more special.

I tried the 5167R recently, and absolutely loved it.

That would be my choice, but I could also worry whether or not I would 'dare' wear it as much as I woukd a similar steel version. So I am planning on a regular 5167 to try out - and based on that, maybe upgrade it to the RG version one day.

    Those are my thoughts.

    Do you travel a lot?

    Can't really say I travel a lot.
I just simply prefer the look of the Travel time over the base model.
However the colors of the rose gold version look absolutely amazing and suit the base model design perfectly.

I am starting to think that if I get the Rose gold, I won't be wearing it as often as I would wear the Travel time.
The plan is not to buy a watch to keep it in the bank vault so Travel time is starting to look like a right choice.

I think that you may have answered your own question!

If it was me, I wouldn't choose the R though it is a great looking watch. As a sports design watch a precious metal would not be my choice.
I would rather go for a Calatrava in precious metal.
The 5164 would make a great every day watch.
Nice place to be in :-)

Had a look at PP 5711 and the 5712 admittedly both still in the sealed box, the salesman offered to unpackage them both, but TBH they did nothing for me, and they remained in the boxes.

The Aquanaut is it a women's watch, genuine question, to me it looks like one, if your going PP AQ then go for the rose gold.

I don't get this buying a watch to fit in with your life, buy the bloody thing because you like it and wear it, if you buy a watch because you do something one day that something may stop, so for the very reason you bought the watch that part fade's away, then you think, why did I buy it.

You guys know the feeling when you're over the moon and at the same time you feel little sick?

    Well I do!

Thank you all for your input.
It was actually easier choice than I thought.
This does feel like a daily wearer and fitting for any occasion.

Lovely and congratulations. I think personally I'd have gone for the rose gold but I have a habit of changing my mind!
