Hi Born, I was looking through the pages of this illustrious site and found your gallery - it is exceptional and has me gripped. The concepts are excellent and give me food for thought. The trouble is do I want a painting or another watch - well actually both!! One day I may be in touch. I will be spending many hours in this gallery, as I do on this Forum. :thumbright:

Fantastic, Born! I really like the SEAL/Aquagraph painting. It's similar to what I have in mind, except the watch will be an Omega 1000 and the scene will be underwater. I'll make some photos, get started on a sketch and contact you off line.

Just found this old painting of mine in my hard drive. Not a watch obviously. (If the owner doesn't want the picture to be posted please email me.)

    Another update:

The first painting is commissioned by a forum member, who has just acquired this classic Porsche. :)

The second one was not commissioned and inspired by the first picture, which reminded me that I had never painted a Porsche before. :D It's 997 GT.

Hope you like them, and thanks for your visit.

First one for me too, could be a Porsche advert (in the best possible way). Conveys the lifestyle, creates the desire, hints at more (a couple disappeared into the long grass)........

    A little experiment.

Today I went out and bought colour pencils, as I wanted to expand my media further. Below is the first decent attempt; I think there's a lot of practice to be done before I can master this medium. I was quite surprised that it handled 'very' differently from ordinary pencils.

Let me know how you find it. Do you prefer this or watercolour? The image is of the actual size, and the paper is ordinary photocopy paper.

I got this man's picture from a magazine cover. Would be surprised if anyone could identify him. :D Hint: the hair is not of the actual colour.

    Thanks.
    Born

    Each medium has its place.

I am very keen on drawings. Just as one can build depth in a painting by placing colour on colour, one can do the same thing with lines in a drawing.

    Best wishes,
    Bob

The face does look familiar, but I can't put my finger on it.

That said, the drawing looks excellent, and you have every reason to be pleased with it.

A better example (I think). I'm more comfortable with the medium now, and ready to tackle watches! :)

Very nice, Born. For my idea which I still intend to commision, I prefer water colours, but it's nice to see you branching out and experimenting.

About to receive a different piece of your work

Another update. Not watches, sorry -- there just haven't been watch orders lately.

Anyway, the pictures below were all drawn with fountain pen. "The Burnham" with a flexible fine nib filled with a mixture of Diamine Red Monaco and Diamine Jet Black to be exact. An inky finger or two were also used in making the wash

I understand some people here like fountain pens, like me. I hope they like these drawings as well.

    Wow, truely superb Born. :) :) :)

I used to have a Burnham fountain pen like that when I was at school. Wish I'd still got it.

Please Note: It is possible that Griswold may know nothing whatsoever about horology. It's even possible that he has never even owned a watch. It is also highly possible the he has a strange imagination. His wife insists he would be far better off paying more attention to taking his medication on time.

    Re: My paintings so far.

    Hi Born

I am truly amazed at the quality of your paintings, they are brilliant.
Seeing these wonderful paintings got me thinking about inquiring about asking you to paint one for me, using one of the pictures below, which show me diving in the red sea, in Egypt. I have an Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph with an orange bezel and was thinking about incorporating the watch in the picture. What do you think?

This is a close encounter with a giant moray eel

This one just shows me doing what I love most.

    Re: My paintings so far.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your compliments.
Your ideas are certainly possible, except that I am snowed under at the moment, and will not be able to take any watercolour commissions until summer. Pencil sketches and ink drawings are the only possibilities at the moment.
If you would like to discuss further, please email me at born13@rocketmail.com.
    Thank you.
    Born

PS. Great pictures, BTW. But what is that monster!?

    Thanks Born

The monster is a giant Moray Eel with a head about as big as my own.

Ill mail you when its nearer the time.

    Cheers

    Andy
