Nice watch, but far better on the correct bracelet for me.

The 36.2mm is the best of the lot IMO but they're difficult to find. Had chance to buy one a few years ago and turned it down in favour of something else.

Love the Railmaster, especially the 36mm one. Definitely a keeper in my collection. Mine says hello:

What a nice watch, had the opportunity to buy one a year ago from a friend for cheap and passed. Kick myself for not buying it.

    Omega Railmaster - pics

    Hi,
Here's my Railmaster. It's one of my favourite watches although hasn't had as much time on the wrist recently, something I need to rectify!!

Sorry about both the quality of the picture and my inability to post in thread like the great examples below - I'm new so am still trying to work out how to do things on the site like post pictures.

On the subject of straps I wouldn't mind your thoughts. I still have the original leather strap the watch came with which is looking a bit grubby. I was thinking of getting a gator replacement but was unsure where best to go especially as I want to keep my omega clasp on the strap rather than replace with a buckle (which most straps seem to come with. Any suggestions?

Also quite liking the mesh strap shown. Where did that come from?

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks
    David

It may be an Omega mesh and they're available from Omega dealers and distributors. IMO, it looks a bit odd as I think it's a 20 mm mesh on a 41 mm Railmaster that has a 21 mm lug width. It would be a better fit on the 39 mm model as that has a 20 mm lug width. But, I may be wrong about that.

Lovely watch but I have never understood the naming - it's a Seamaster Railmaster isn't it?

Indeed it is...now. I'm not sure when the Railmaster moved into Omega's Seamaster range of watches, but here are a couple of links about their origins:

    • The Seamaster
NB it is more commonly accepted that the Seamaster range came into being in 1947.
    • The Railmaster Explained
NB The other two 'master' ranges, the Speedmasters and Railmasters, date from 1957, along with the introduction of Seamaster Professional watches and the Ranchero.

    My old Railmaster ...

Just a bit too big for me. Maybe one day I'll get the smaller one.

A few years ago, I went to see a Railmaster 36.2mm, approx. 12 months old. The following day I had a look at a Rolex Explorer 1 in excellent condition. I bought the Explorer 1 and let the Railmaster go.........in hindsight I should've bought 'em both because the prices were great by today's standards.

See what you mean about the mesh. Now that I look at it - it does appear to look a bit small. Not sure I would have noticed it though if you hadn't pointed it out. Clearly you are more observant than I

OP - Looks great on the mesh!

I think it does just fine on OEM too… best bracelet I have ever come across. Totally solid.

Mine is 39mm version. Was bought to be a one watch option, but that was never going to happen (!) but it would be a good solution if that was a problem that needed to be solved,

Never looked at these before. But I must say its a very handsome and classic design. Could be a contender on my search for a bracelet watch to complement my Speedy on a strap.

Close to pulling the trigger on one of these.

Fed up waiting for an AT skyfall and one of these is available closeby to me for a f2f.

Sod law if I buy an AT skyfall will appear on the SC the next day.

Good idea! Better safe than sorry. Can't take any risk!

It's the 39mm version. Price agreed. Just need to keep the seller interested till I can get time for the f2f.

My favourite of all Omega's watches.

I thought I'd done really well when I finally found one in 41.5mm size, but as you can see, it wore far, far too big

I dream about finding a mint 39mm on bracelet at a reasonable price. Fat chance of that

What do you think a reasonable price is for a 39mm 6 years old with an omega service last year?

EDIT: Just read your previous posts

If it was a full refurb service, then I wouldn't expect much change from £2k. If you can get it down to the price of a new quartz AT then I would say you were doing alright. They're so bloody rare.

I know someone who bought a minter 7 years ago for £850, lucky sod.

WF have a 36mm in at the moment if anyone's looking for one. http://watchfinder.co.uk/Omega/Railm...7/0/item/40173

Love the Railmaster, tried a 41mm a few years ago but couldn't get past the no-date. I have wised up a bit since then. Agreed with others, think the 39 is the best compromise.

Railmasters are stunning, and you can count me amongst those who think it looks better on a croc than on a bracelet. Although I think that about AT also.

So many beautiful watches, so little money.

I do very much like the classic look of the rail master. It doesnt need a date window and is just perfectly proportioned. I also like the Sinn 556a which is of similar style.

Assuming that the 39 mm is on a 1574/898 bracelet it's part # 115ST1574 that's needed. Cousins don't list it but might order it in.

If you don't mind ordering from across the pond, Omega half-links are available from Otto Frei. I invariably seem to end up ordering an extra one for every Omega that comes my way.
