Thread: It's Huge

    It's Huge

Hadn't quite appreciated the size of the packaging.

It is pretty impressive, just not sure where to put it.

For comparison the Rolex box is the large size.

Tried to sneak it past SWMBO but not surprisingly got caught.

It's certainly a good way of making you think you're getting more for your money! Longines does that a lot too. The boxes are quite cheap when made in China but the inconvenience, shipping and storage costs are duly passed onto the customer.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

If it converted into a 12-watch storage box, that'd be cause for celebrating its impressiveness – but since it doesn't, then it's simply unjustified excessiveness.

Well, the bubble needs to be represented by sómething!

There is logic to this madness though.
Nowadays most buyers have become aware of the perceived value of the b&p in the case of a selling the watch on.
Thís packaging ensures that there will be sóme reason for paying more for a complete set in say 15 years time as few will keep such a package. Don´t calculate the cost of storage though as that will be ludicrous and not economical.

I hate huge boxes. Unnecessary waste of space and money, Also don't like when expensive watches come in meager boxes,Something Seiko is guilty of, like a lot of other things,Rolex gets it right. Their boxes are adequate without being excessive.

I am perfectly ok in not paying for the box.
I think that for beaters it should be disposable packing and for more luxury ones fit as watch storage box; I mean no larger than a modest sized generic one.
Imo Seiko gets it right in keep with the watch escalon.
The box the GS comes in is ok to put on the bed side table.
The others I like are the simple sturdy wood box Agat comes in or the plastic minis of Vostok:

Mentioning Vostok I think they show the way with the 1967 LE box. Economical, pleasant to the eye, functional and modest sized so you can actually keep the watch in it while you paid no more than fiver extra for it.

She looks like she's already been at the bottle of scotch that's sat in the corner, and then decided to adopt one of those gameshow girls poses holding the evenings top prize.
