    keith - new contributor

    Hi folks.
Have been skulking around a few watch forums for a while, and concluded that this one appears to have a nice rabble of members.
The 1st watch I was given, in early 1960s, belonged to my (then) recently departed grandma - no idea what sort except IIRC it was bought from the Co-op in Coventry and needed winding regularly. I don't recall what happened to it.
1975 found me wearing a new brown-faced Seiko 3609 WITH A DAY & DATE! I guess it was at this point that real interest in watches started, although money was a problem...
In 1980s, father-in-law bequeathed his silver pocket watch to me, a real surprise as we didn't get on brilliantly. It came from a pawn shop pre-WW2 and has "Kay Worcester 342" on the dial ("Kay" was one of the 1st mail order companies in England). It still works.
1990s saw a bit more dosh around, and we bought a "Longines L3 617 4" battery watch as a Xmas prezzy.
After retiring the fun started! We now have collected:
    1. "1953 Eternamatic chronometre" (£390)
    2. "Boctok 2809 chronometre" (£60)
    3. "Damas 25 jewel auto" (£40) - not yet taken the back off, as I stupidly didn't look closely at the pics so missed the 14-sided shallow opening system! I wait for a suitable spanner from 'Watch Tools'.
If you ask why buy these 3, I'm not sure I know... Just appeal at the time, I guess.

    Keith

Starter for 10 - sold as a "chronometer", this may or may not, in true Soviet style, be accurate. It runs 15-20 secs/24 hrs slow, and is at present with Paul Gamble for check & regulating.

Thanks - the Vostok Volna has an interesting story. I also believe that, for a Russkie, it's not a badly finished movement.

Highly overwhelmed by all the greetings - thank you muchly. Will try to put up some more pics, to satisfy the apparent cravings... I'll take the back off the Eterna hopefully tomorrow- rather sexy mov.

[f/i: since packing up from the NHS, I have taken up audio restoration (recordings pre-1964) - it brings a modest remuneration and contacts all over. Should my meager experience/advice be of use to anyone, please ask].
