Thread: Bulova Accutron II any owners out there?

Bulova Accutron II any owners out there?

    Hi all

I spotted these models in another thread and I'm seriously considering one for my next purchase.

Just wondered if anyone has one and what their thoughts are?

I really like the orange/white combo, but the blue is nice too. I like the smooth sweep seconds hand too!

Any members that have any experience of these, opinions would be welcomed!

Yes, someone on the forum bought one. Not sure who.

Yep, I see it now. Late in the thread is a couple of members who bought one.

I'm still liking the look of these a lot.

Modern revival of a classic design.

I was just looking at these in a shop window yesterday, they had one with a 'spaceview' type of clear face which was reminiscent of the old ones from the 60's and 70's.

Are the new ones really hummer movements with a tuning fork like the old ones? Or just designed to look similar?

I picked one up a few weeks ago, eventually decided on the orange version.

The supplied mesh strap isn't great to be honest, with the ugly links to shorten it, and the butterfly clasp doesn't sit properly unless your wrist is 8" or more.

I've put mine on a Rallye style strap, which I think really suits it.

The watch itself is fine, very well made, super smooth sweep from the second hand and nice retro styling if you're in to that sort of thing. The internal bezel is very smooth in operation too, I'm quite impressed.

    Not much cash either!

Like the strap. I'd be interested to see one of these in the flesh.

I have black-red model. If not for poor mesh, I would probably have gotten the white-orange version. Well... if someone wants to trade white-orange head for black-red head, he can contact me :)

Overall it is a very nice piece. Although I wish it was 1-2mm smaller in diameter (and my wrist is not small with approx 19,5cm)
And MSRP of 400 GBP seems to be too high, but already they are availabe at much lesser prices which are acceptable.

Quality seems to be ok, coffin bracelet is cool and unusual. But I wear it mostly on black rubber.
As for accuracy - it gained 3 seconds in 3 months, so it is good.

That is one lovely watch, I've been following the other thread for a while, and please don't take this the wrong way but I had yet to be impressed with any photo of the watch.
I was always underwhelmed, but that photo really accentuates the fantastic shape of the case, even the inner bezel looks amazing, the clean lines and that strap is perfect.

Not paid too much attention, but it's lost a couple of seconds in 2 months vs my Aerospace that I set my watches by, so no concerns.

Of course, the Aero might be fast!

Could you please tell me where this strap was purchased and the model please?
I have been looking at the snorkel and wondered if anyone can recommend the best place to buy, i have seen them for sale at HS Johnstones the jewellers, anyone had dealings with them.
    Thanks.

I think the latter, they're listed as "Precisionist' movements, which are Bulova's sweeping hand quartz movement, so you get something of the Accutron experience, but not the buzz (I suspect, I've never listened to a Precisionist,

I've ordered the red and black one, and am hoping it won't be too big for my dainty wrist. I too will quite possibly be getting myself a Rallye strap as I think Tooks' looks great ;)

Wondered if anyone could say how big this watch wears, as some of the shots look huge.
Could if be compared to say a Precista 18, 82, Speedbird 3 or an Everest, lug to lug length all of which I own.
    Thanks.

I have a quick one for you, until I get the chance to photograph it properly. Received mine the other day and I really like, love the sweeping second hand.

I've put mine on a nato strap for the moment, I find them quite comfortable and liked the orange stripe in this one.

Just about the most perfect model variant and strap combination I've seen.
    Superb.

Anyone know if the case is the same as the orignal Accutron Deep Seas?

I've got one of those, lovely watch.

The new Accutron is slightly bigger. Mine measures at 43mm across vs between 39 to 40 mm for the original. The bottom to the top of the crystal measures 15.60.

Personally I think it is a great modern re-spin, I would live to own the original too. I plan to wear the modern one as a regular watch and I won't be afraid to enter the sea with, unlike with a vintage watch (unfortunately).

I'm thinking of getting one of these in the January sales...does anyone know how long the battery lasts? Any owner's views?

(Of course, I don't need another watch, and I don't normally like quartz...but they are cool looking things, and tempting on sale!)

I'm on my 4th Accutron II and like them a lot. Nearly bought a Sea King but thought it too big, then nearly bought a Lobster but settled on this...

Kirk in the same building as these guys in Harrogate

    http://www.montpellierantiques.co.uk

On the second floor is a watch dealer who often has original Accutrons. You may have been there already and be aware of him, if so please ignore.

    Bargain price from EJ.
I just picked the orange one up from SC for that price with a second bracelet though and so far so good. I may even let the wife pay for it and call it my birthday present
