I usually prefer the date window to be in the '3' position. But on this watch between the 4 and 5 is just right, so it keeps all the hour markings.
Lovely.
It looks like they used some style elements of this model in the later Seiko Presage series.

It's good to know that end up with a fellow TZer. I umm'd and ahh'd about buying this from AMJ for over a week but I couldn't get there to try it on and it is a very distinctive profile and fairly big so I decided to pass. Great thread by the way and I hope it keeps growing as I'm still trying to decide which spring drive I want to get so this thread is very interesting. Leaning towards the SBGE001 (though I really like the limited green version) but I'm also drawn to the 'budget' Landmaster SBDB005 maybe simply because it is so different to anything I've ever owned.

I will admit it is a bit of a lump but the finishing is very nice for what I paid. Styling and detailing is undoubtedly Oriental rather than European or Transatlantic.
