Hotel in London - cheap and clean

    Hi All,

My son has some graduate type interviews in London tomorrow and next week (Knightsbridge). Last minute and all that

Can anyone recommend somwhere for an overnight stay that's cheap, clean and easy to get to on the tube from Euston and knightsbridge ???

Your experience will be Much Appreciated

There are now several Travelodge / Premier Inns in the area South of Euston, probably your best bet.

It's London and short notice though, it's not going to be cheap by normal standards. Think of it as an investment.

The Faringdon Travel Lodge looks the cheapest of the lot.

In 2008-2010 have been a few times in the Ibis Euston (200 yards walk from station) - and a short walk from the venue of meetings I was part of.

Last minute.com, and go for their "Top Secret Hotels". Always ends up somewhere really decent (min 4*) and plenty sub £100.
I have to sort short-notice accommodation on London several times a week, and simply put, it's a nightmare. This is the most reliable if you don't want to end up in a dive of a place.

Can't give you a link, but just tried it myself, filter by distance and price, and there were plenty of winners for Knighstbridge. Euston even more

Could approach a university to see if they have a free room in halls. I have a friend who did this while travelling for job interviews in London.

    This is a great suggestion.
I understand many of the London halls run 'bed and breakfast' operations during the summer break.

I stayed in one last weekend when I was out in London for the night and just wanted a bed for a few hours. They are pretty basic but for £47 absolutely fine. Don't expect the Ritz - the towels had holes in them, the en-suite was tired but it was more than adequate for the money. Mine was right next to Waterloo Station - Stamford Rd, Kings College accommodation, booked on Late Rooms.

I stayed at the Days Inn in Sussex Gardens on Monday night for £78. Very comfy and well-equipped. There are plenty of other cheapies in the area, but look at the reviews before booking. The Strand Palace on The Strand can have bargains, but being summer time, probably not now!

Once stayed in some college accomodation just round the back of the Albert Hall when we went to the Proms. About £30 for a double room. Spent the money saved on booze.

Booked it via a site like this:

Not so cheap that he has to pay by the hour I'd imagine...

A lot of mates swear by this. Also use it for housing actors and musicians when away on projects.

Try the gainsborough hotel in south Kensington. It's clean, cheap and the locations good.

The last time I was in London we stayed at the Ambassadors Bloomsbury and it was pretty good. It was good value when compared to other London hotels and it's close to Euston Station for the tube etc.
