The itch, gotta scratch it ;). Any thoughts?

Surfing the worl wide interweb, I found this watch an immediately liked the look of it. What are the thoughts on this one, anyone who ownes this, likes, dislikes? The watch comes with either a 42mm or a 45mm case, the 45mm case appeals to me the most.

    Here's a pic

The Oris is nice too, although it's a bit of a modern twist of an old theme.

I don't normally go for Oris, but that's a fine looking watch.

What are you hoping to get from this thread? Only you can decide how to spend your cash on a watch.

Personally, I cant stand these big crown "pilots watch" with these bezels (sorry cant remember the name for this style of bezel).

However, at this sort of price point, I'd look at the Oris range of big crown pilots watches.

Looking for some thoughts on this watch. But some alternatives might also be good. Looking for something other than black faced divers ;)

Agree with the rest that the Oris looks much better than the Hamilton. The large crown on the Hamilton is a huge 'no thanks' for me.

I owned one a couple of years back and can honestly say that it was superb. The quality of the movement, case build and coin-edge bezel were outstanding. I also like the heritage you get with a Hamilton.

Personally I prefer it to the Oris but go for the 42mm as the 45mm will be too big and out of proportion.

Tried on a big crown pointer date in goldsmiths a while ago and it was gorgeous, i can see me having one at some point. There was a brilliant deal a while back at beaverbrooks i think £480 or so and i cant believe i didnt buy it x

Ah, if the thread had been comparing the Hammy to a Pointer Date I'd have given a different answer. The Oris BC PD is one of my faves and I also tried it on in Fraser Hart priced at £480 but didn't have £480.

why do I seem to be the only person who likes the Hamilton? I really like the crown on it and the creamy dial plots.

I'm with you, never had an Oris which could excite me. But this Hamilton...:D

  18. #18
I have nothing against the hammy, in fact if you do a search i was contemplating a pointer date against a khaki field automatic, never handled a hamilton but instantly bowled over by Oris pieces, just feel special in my opinion but who's to say the hammy wouldn't as well?

  19. #19
Personally I prefer the Hamilton. Although the 42mm version.

Just go with what you prefer OP (seems to be the Hamilton). Otherwise you'll just end up flipping and probably getting the Hamilton anyway.

Love the coin-edge bezel, onion crown & cathedral hands. This Hamilton is one of my favourite watches.

My only gripe was the black on white date disc so I changed it for a white on black....

....and now it's perfect, for me

The soft double skin strap with roller buckle is also superb...

On the Hammy, the white date spoils what is otherwise a good looking watch .

If you like cathedral hands and a coin edge how about a PRS-9 CAF ?

I like the dial layout, the bezel and the hands. The shape of the case doesn't really appeal to me. The Precista's are pretty good value for money, but I can't get over the fact that they are hommages. Thanks for the suggestion!

If it ticks the boxes for you then pull the trigger. But, try and analyse whether you really want the watch or are just buying it to scratch the itch? I have bought pieces in the past and when they have arrived the itch is still there.

I sourced the date disc from ebay seller 'Redroosteruk' http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ETA-DATE-R...item2ed386c9a3
Theirs is a genuine ETA standard part.

It was fitted by Steve Burrage at 'Rytetime Watch Repairs'.

I don't own this particular watch, but I have the khaki field in 42mm.

I love it to be honest, and it think it represents excellent value for money.

Only gripes would be the lume isn't great (compared to a seiko for instance) and there's no AR on the crystal. I suspect both would apply here.

The 38mm Poljot 'Buran' automatic is a similar style to the Hamilton...

I also prefer the vintage look Hamilton as the oris looks a bit boring to my eyes.

Thanks for the tip, will definately change the disc to black. Is you dial colour also dark brown?

  32. #32
I tried one on recently in my local Ernest Jones who had one reduced to £240!!! - I was all set to buy until I tried it on - the onion crown was huge and the strap was just so long and over complicated - plus the date wheel looked wrong - so I decided against a purchase even at this price. Not sure of the size but it seemed pretty big.

    Hamilton

I would go for the Hamilton. I like the crown! Right about the date wheel which is wrong.

Yes, very dark brown. It doesn't register as brown though. More like a 'warm black' which, I imagine, is the designer's intention

I'm acutually on your side here and prefer the Hamilton. I would however consider the smaller model. 45 mm is huge!

Went with this one instead of the Hammy. Totally in love!

What do you think, better choice?

Take some antihistamines and maybe use a topical steroid cream, that should cure it.

The NATO strap is from Maratac, the quality is the best I've ever had.

The wooden box with the leather band is a beauty, but it's absolutely massive! Box is 1400km away ;)

LLD is going to be more of a keeper than the Hammy
