A bit of a clean and some diamond paste will work wonders.
A bit of a clean and some diamond paste will work wonders.
I've started using a very fine kitchen knife sharpening stone to get crystals back to flat and scratch free, before starting in with the diamond paste.
Looks like this one might need to start on the courser side
looks promising -
I have a bad taste in my mouth just looking at that! Presumably there's a nice watch there somewhere underneath all the DNA?
New bezel perhaps, but the glass looks fine to me.
Almost NOS.
Took a little time (mainly to source a NOS movement) and it now looks like this
I have got a bezel in better condition, but the battered one suits this nicely worn piece
Excellent work! Is that a new crystal??
That bezel does have some character. An attitude problem almost..
Great work, and a beautiful watch. The worn bezel makes the watch, IMHO, and it would just look to fresh and new without it. It adds a lot of character!
Yup, a new crystal. Only a few pounds from Cousins and easy to fit.
Thanks chaps! I'm in agreement about the bezel. The watch is certainly not in tip-top condition, so a better condition one would not be at home.
It's just as battered as the case! I'd replace it, as what's there is functionally useless, despite how incongruously fresh it might look.
I have a pukeworthy "Eighdies" tu-tone one of these, and although the case is ding-free, it's lost its sharp edges. Also the lip around the inner bezel is corroded from seawater or somesuch, and I don't want to keep taking the bezel off to sort out the case finish. A new case would do it, as the bezel and movement/dial are in very good original condition. Again, though, like so much that's found on this sub-forum, rarer than rocking horse poo...
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
Nice ;)
Was the movement expensive? Is the bezel an insert or would the whole thing need to be replaced?
The movement was £62 (expensive for a quartz!), but they are no longer produced and rather difficult to come across.
It's not an easy insert to remove without damaging it (further!), however the bezel is quite ground down in some places, so a new insert might sit proud and not look like it fits too well.
I may have one thats better than that Ed
That's come out really well, well done.
Wow. What a result. Well done and congrats. Was this an ebay find?
