I swapped a Speedie for a Seiko ? What the....

    .....But what a Seiko :-)

Everything in my head said no, but I really wanted to try one.
Turned out to be a nice surprise in the flesh.

That's lovely, i have one of these on my list an absolute classic.
What's your thoughts on it regarding pro's and con's please, does it wear big and what's the weight like?
Enjoy it, I'm sure you will!

These do look much better on a strap, not sure about the swap though.

Wears quite tall, but I've only had it on the NATO so far, as the bracelet needs sizing.
Have to wear the NATO snug as its quite a heavy brute.

Now I've had A LOT of watches, didn't think this would compare to some of the best.

Looks fantastic in the photo. Try the stock waffle rubber, that's my favourite on it.

Nice, this is gonna be my next purchase I think, as I've given up finding a sub-£2k 6159 :-P

Very, very tempting - especially with the way the Forex is atm. Enjoy!

Looks class Murph and I must try one at some point. I think the waffle might be the way to go.

Speedies are a dime a dozen - you'll never struggle to reacquire one if the need should arise.

I love the MM300. Great retro look in a new package. I now also "get" the metal around the indices. Thought they were purely for bling at first but they make the markers so much easier to read in daylight.

    Great swap.

You've got to try one of these at least once.

I'll have one back sometime in the future, it was the watch that gave me a real feel good factor when wearing it.

    Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!

sits beautifully on its original rubber or if you want to, try it on an Isofrane 20mm in black, gorgeous combo good swap but for how long

  23. #23
I have owned on of these great divers, it is a chunk of watch but the way Seiko shape there case's and when worn with the rubber strap even though I did not have the strap done up tight the watch always felt secure, no flopping about at all. The only reason I sold was that to my eyes the minute hand was a fraction to small in relation to the rest of the watch, other than that a near perfect watch for the money involved.

Speedy trade value was too cheap, but based on the value stated, it’s a nice swap. Personally, I don’t think they’re on the same page and I’ve had several of both.

speedy just too "delicate" to me...

Bang on. Saw the OP when it came on and was VERY tempted to pile in on the asking price, as was a mate who I told later. Good stepped dials are fetching a premium, as when you compare to the post '72/3 flatties they are a different watch altogether.......

For me, a very astute trade.

BTW, is this Seiko the same as Charley Boormans watch on Masterchef lately?

Probably why NASA took all that effort to test them to destruction and then selected them above all others for manned space flight!

    Not that you'd be biased!

I've always loved the look of the Seiko MM300, and would love to try one one day. I'm not sure I could swap my only Speedie for one but maybe if I had another Speedie to fall back on like you then I don't see why not

Nothing wrong with the MM300, but I think the other party got a great deal on that swap!

Well I was happy with the deal. Think I've had 7-8 speedmasters and the last one went to a good home.

I'm in Italy at the moment, swimming in the Lakes and such.... So I'm happy with the swap.

    Great pic of the MM300.
How are you finding the bracelet?
I replaced mine with a K.Wong shark strap as I found it too 'light', almost frail, to take on the heavy watchhead.

I'm a big fan of the MM300. It's like a Tuna crossed with a Sub. Beautiful, but aggressive and manly looking. Enjoy it :)

That's really smart. I LOVE both watches, hoping to get my hands on a birth year speedy at some point soon and will probably keep it but the MM300 is a lovely piece.

The acid test is always whether you're happy with the deal and as it appears you are then it's job done.

I think the MM is a belter which I hope you enjoy.

    Fine swap!!

Im probably one of the only people who doesnt really lust over a Speedie😔 but I always lusted over an MM300 and in the flesh its my own personal perfect watch!! I would say its a keeper but so was my SMP, Rolex 14060, Blue Tudor Sub, Blue Tudor Snowflake etc etc etc, you get the usual flipping picture!!😄
For me in terms of what you pay for a second hand one and the quality you get its superb!!! everyone should have one at some point just the same way I really should try a Speedie!!😉

    No, no you're not ;).

I happen to like other types of underrated dive watches, but I'd sure buy a top-end Seiko diver over a Planet Ocean, as long as it wasn't too large and didn't "wear vast". Unfortunately, as Seiko doesn't really push these outside the Far East, I guess I'll never get round to finding out what they're like.

My thoughts entirely , I would rather own a MM300 or one of the GS.

As long as you still one Speedy in the mix you'll be just fine.
