Looks like a PVD coated or ceramic case?

Looks a PVD SDDS to me.

There's no chance of them producing a watch with PVD or any other type of unrefinishable coating on it.

I tend to agree with that, so IF it's PVD, it won't be in need of a refinish ever I guess...

It seems from the source code that it'll be a blue dialed SDDS:

(Pic lifted from Internet, not mine).

I did see that and try it myself but it didn't work...... therefore either the OP of the photo was having a bit of fun or rolex have since updated the site?

Or the photo has just been given a blue cast to represent the blue dial...

Time will tell, I guess. :-)

Hang on a minute. Do Rolex even do launches or new releases outside of Basel?

Traditionally no, so this is a big step away from their usual modus operandi.

Hope they've given it a wider bracelet then! Or they're just gilding the lily.

    Yep I think it's a case/bracelet made of a new material

Here is a Rolex patent application regarding the new material

looking at that information, it suggests a glow in the dark ceramic, im assunming that means it will be a ceramic lume bezel?

"The invention relates to a persistent phosphorescent ceramic composite material which is a sintered dense body comprising two or more phases, a first phase consisting of at least one metal oxide and a second phase consisting of a metal oxide containing at least one activating element in a reduced oxidation state. The invention furthermore relates to a method for the preparation of a phosphorescent ceramic composite material as defined in any of the previous claims, the method comprising the following steps: preparing a mixture of a metal oxide and a phosphor; fabricating a green body from the mixture; and heat treating the green body in a reducing atmosphere."

This as just posted on the Rolex forum...

Speaking as someone who recently sold his 16610LV after 7 years because I realised I just found it too generic and bland - and that a coloured bezel just never looked quite right - even though I really wanted it to - I've got to ask what are the designers at Rolex smoking?! - and all the marketing speak is just nauseating. It's the same overpriced out of proportion watch with a funny coloured dial. Yawn.....

Yes please. Will certainly order one to go with my base model DSSD. Blue, black and green. My fave.

If that I'd it... I like the concept but not so much the execution. Would need to see the dial in real life to appreciate the colour transition before casting a final verdict.
On the upside, some might say this watch is "not very Rolex" (nor is their announcement style for this piece) - but I really like that aspect. They've got a gazillion other watches that have looked the same for decades. It is nice to see them let loose a little and try something a bit different in their sports line.

afraid i have to agree with you on this (providing the release is what we all think it is).

Obviously i cant say until its properly released and ive seen it, but to me this just feels like milking the cow somewhat with a new "special" release and will devalue the brand - in my opinion, clearly others will have different views.

I do not know guys but I love it, you seem old-fashioned saying classic is classic. What does it mean? Did you expect another black DSSD or what. Sometimes I gotta feeling world for some folks does not feel like rotate. I really like the watch, it is new wave of DSSD and I believe it will be good seller.

  48. #48
I can't see it being a good seller - it will most likely out sell the DSSD this year and next - but only because it is new, and likely to be quite low volume (as is the DSSD at present). I'd have preferred a simple new blue dial - or a different type of black - I'm not a fan of a dial that changes colour across the plain - seems v strange to me. The colours look ok - but not a great look imho for a first look.
It's just a matter of time...

Don't think it does change, it's just a graduated effect – much the same as you can do with graphic software for DTP, etc.
It doesn't have any pearl or prismatic particles to create a colour change flip-flop effect.
