    Epic-sounding V12 Mercedes Project

This looks like an awesome project idea, buy a cheap V12 Merc for £3-4k on Ebay and spend £2k on a custom exhaust. End up with a luxury barge that sounds like an F1 car!

    Wow!!!
What a fantastic looking exhaust and even better sound!
I think, for the money, I should start looking at a Merc, rather than a Land Rover Defender!
    Just love that noise!

Let me check that I've got this right:

Buy old V12 Merc which (probably) has more miles on it than the Starship Enterprise

Spend about another 50% of the purchase price of the car on an exhaust system

Take it out and thrash the nuts off it

    What could possibly go wrong?

    Loud cars are douchey.

My 6.0 l V12 Daimler has plenty power and although you notice it has displacement, it is distinguished, not like a screaming punker...

Noisy cars are too much associated with young guys wearing baseball caps and driving their 1.4 litre VW Golfs and the likes...

That sounds awful. Well, lovely, but awful too. Completely un-live-able-with. Or whatever the real word for that is.

Wow not many Ferraris of Lamborghinis near some of you guys then as that is pretty much how they sound. A slightly toned down version of the above would be cool in an SL just seems plain wrong in an S class saloon though.

It was really and was a rather amazing gesture from a friend of my mum's. He threw me the keys and said "you're insured third party aren't you?". It drew a rather ridiculous amount of attention and felt a bit like a Lotus Elise on steroids/crack cocaine. It also has a rather heavy clutch pedal which is shaped liked a shiny donut. I was slightly terrified that my foot would slip off!
