How do you define a sub?

Basically I've seen quite a few different watches described as a submariner, not all called that by the manufacturer, but wondered how people decide if a watch fits that group.

Is it the bezel or the crown guard, the cyclops or something else?

Its made by Rolex and says Submariner on the dial. Anything else is a homage (Submariner style) or fake.

OP, you like talking about things which look like things, but aren’t really things, don’t you?

It's someone who likes being sexually dominated. Usually seeks a more aggressive partner, known as a "dom".

Be careful though, the dom is widely faked and peddled by fly by night cowboys known as condoms.

Good point. I may start a discussion about whether we should discuss not discussing them.

And just to make it more interesting, a submariner doesn't have a cyclops. If it does, it's a sub date (and no, Tony, it's not called a dom).

OP, if you like the watches but don't like the prices, do not seek a fake instead.

Don't worry, I hate the idea with a passion.

It's just that I've read lots of comments about subs, but they don't always refer to Rolex and Tudor watches.

So I guess I should rephrase the question to:

How do you define a submariner style watch?

I don't. If you hate fakes you shouldn't either, since when you do you are trying to tie in a watch to a more prestigious model.

This was the sort of thing I was thinking about. It's not the only time I've seen this type of description, but it was the one I found straight away.

If you want a good laugh, read his negative feedback about that watch.

Yes, and no. It's like in the Navy: every watch can go underwater once

I call mine an Ł8 Soki.
It can't be called a "Sub" or a "Submariner" because it isn't water proof

It doesn't happen here - a sub is either Rolex, or very occasionally a Tudor version.

You must have read the submariner comments on the Tourettes forum?

As this is the wrong area of the forum, Id suggest that the OP edits his last post pretty sharpish to remove the nastier stuff.
If only because these comments might well obscure the possibility that he just may have made some accurate observations...

Edit - too late - you've been quoted- although worse things get said in another part of the forum, so Id be seeing pots calling kettles black if any real offence had been taken...

...still the wrong place and time for such remarks though...

Last year the yellow duck marine became a yellow sub when it sank.

If you need to know how to define a sub can I suggest giving Daniel Sturridge a call?

To me a Sub is a watch made by Rolex, a type of sandwich, a newspaper editor or a kind of boat the Navy owns.
