Ouch!!
But hang on, 3.5K for a Seiko... seriously? ;-) If Seiko can do Grand Seiko then why not Casio with Oceanus.
And the second hand had better line up with the markers!
Don't think I'll be buying one, even if the second hand does line up. It's a good looking watch but it doesn't quite do it for me at that price.
Many thanks for all your posts, they have helped me to think a bit outside the box and I believe they have influenced my final choice. I have for example decided to settle for 100m water resistance.
I have been through the process and I have ordered a watch. My initial thought was the monster.
Then again, it might be a bit on the heavy side, perhaps not the most comfortable watch, so I considered the titanium Promaster:
I did not get very far with that, I contacted Higuchi and this was his reply: "Thankyou for your request at higuchi-inc
BUT It has been discontinued/nolonger available. We dont carry it ..sorry"
So, the Casio Protrek perhaps?
It's nice, but for evening out to dinner, etc.? I don't know. I am not a huge fan of the looks either.
So, I have gone ahead and ordered something else, it is cheap, light, 100m water resistant, has a sapphire crystal and a quartz movement. Photos and further details when it arrives, about 10 days from now I suppose.

This one:
Black Monster fits the bill every time.
The rest of the collection remain firmly in the safe now

I asked a price, but haven't seen one yet. According to one post I saw on WUS they are selling out fast in Singapore.

I tried one of those once. If you're over 40 you'll struggle to read the E6B slide rule; but the worst thing was the hour/calendar setting mechanism - quick-set hour one way; calendar the other. So if you were going east your turned the crown and the hour hand jumped an hour at a time - excellent - just like a Rolex. When you were going west, that turned the date, and you therefore had to go a whole month around on the hour hand, or reset the hour hand then reset the date. Absolute PITA!
Just back from vacation with only this on the wrist
Basicly a Heuer/SBS for a fraction of the price, miyota quartz, 40 mm and easy too read.
What are watch rolls for one watch for traveling not me, come on lads I had that problem which watch so i just took.

I use a Rolex Explorer 2 or a Breitling Emergency.
Another Gshock fan here. I wore my 6900 to India recently and I just couldn't fault it.
Inexpensive, easy to replace if lost or stolen. I had home and local time clearly visible which was great as well.
Thanks for your suggestions. If I wanted to strap a hulking great piece of steel that regularly requires thousands of $ worth of service to my slim wrist I would. It is just not my cup of tea. I am not into body building and I would rather spend my money on things like travel.
Now available on Sales Corner...

Should've read the post more thoroughly before replying!

The only complication you'll really need on a travel watch is the GMT, unless you only travel North/South (and even then, politics mean you'll find yourself in different timezones).
For the rest, buy the watch you want and make up an excuse after
See what I did there....
BTW if anyone would like to know more about the Oceanus, I can recommend Nick Shabazz's Youtube channel. Nick is really a knife guy but has moved into watch reviews. Here's his take on the Casio - it's a really nice watch.
Yes I like Nick Shabazz reviews especially his Casio m5610 review . I take it he’s a New Yorker ?
He sounds like he was in Once upon a time in America
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He's famous amongst the knife community for providing good silent reviews (you have to mute the sound in order to survive until the end)
His accent was certainly grating at first, but he is a polymath, a clever chap and delivers witty reviews and asides. The structured format of "the good, the great, the bad and the ugly" works well and he's honed it. In terms of his knife reviews, he knows his stuff and I can't fault him. He's changed his views on watches, previously being a self-confessed quartz snob but now sports a PO on his rather slight wrist. I think he's actually from a bit further in than NY but as you know he's a man of mystery...
Well honed knife reviews.
Correct in every sense.
I’ll be heading out the same way later in the year and I’m thinking Seiko Sarb on a one piece nylon might fit the bill. Subtle so shouldn’t turn any heads but should do the job for beach or restaurant. Might also throw the trusty old g-shock in the bag for good measure!
I appreciate the concerns over the risks of damage, loss or theft..... But does anyone else here think it is somewhat ironic that people go out and buy watches built to withstand whatever you can throw at them.... worn by James Bond, taken to the Moon, ejected out of aircraft, trekked to the Polar regions etc. etc. and then you ask for a "travel" watch? Were is your faith in the brand your have spent your hard earned cash on?
My Sinn U2 spent 10 years traveling to some very hostile environments.... my only concern was the potential of being mugged... but that might have been lessened by not having a common, household name on the dial and the fact that I am very alert to my surroundings.
Currently using a GW-056. All the benefits of a G-shock but in a very slim case.
Ecodrive GMT is a good call too.
