I'm not actually going but I will be in the vicinity. It will be interesting to see what they do, I saw a news image of the venue this morning and it looked pretty bare, apparently everything was being assembled from 12:00 today onwards, can't be good for the nerves of those setting everything up.

Hope things go well and everyone has a great time.

One of my colleagues was a torch bearer a the weekend and said the atmosphere was brilliant.

    regards

I'm wondering if Sean Connnery will jump out of a helicoper with Alex Salmond

OMG I can't believe how bad it is so far. Unbelievably annoying. Cheap and amateur. That blond woman is shockingly poor and I say it again, annoying.

I was looking forward to it but it's utter crap.

I have to keep watching because it's so toe-curling.

Sorry but what are those people doing jumping about like they're not all there in front of Rod. Not only are they not in time with each other or the music, they look like they've just wandered into it and aren't meant to be there.

I cannot believe how poor it has been after the build up and how the director had done lots of other shows.

He was born in Glasgow, and lived in Scotland until he was 8.
Seems to be able to change his accent to suit.

Was it necessary to show him kiss another man?

I got that it was about being a liberal and cosmopolitan city that embraces everyone but I didn't think it was necessary. That's not me being a prude or homophobic because I'm not either, I just didn't think it was necessary in the opening ceremony.

I am from Glasgow, and also I have worked and socialised with John and his husband, this was his comment to me,

that he is as Scottish as hot dogs, jokingly of course, and may I add a very generous and kind person indeed, its been 5 years since I seen him last and he always sends me a birthday/Xmas card

As I watched the opening ceremony and its many (tired and one-dimensional) clichés, I waited in anticipation for the show’s director to turn those clichés on their head and say something really interesting about modern Scotland.

    That moment never came.

The ceremony was unimaginative and poorly conceived.

In fact, it only improved when the athletes entered the stadium – the happiness they displayed at the fact they’ve made it to Glasgow and are about to take part in the games was a pleasure to see.

It’s not usually the case that the best bit of an athletics opening ceremony is the simple sight of thousands of athletes walking into a stadium.

I'm looking for their music playlist. Was a cracking upbeat dance tracklist with lots of fellas in skirts and funny hats. took me back to my youth!

    Don't worry, it won't happen.

I watched until I cramped with the cringing. To misquote Woody Allan; "It was a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery." If they'd managed to avoid the clichés it could have been quirky and original, but no let's bring on Nessie and whisky barrels.

Karen Dunbar? She's at best third rate, even in our small pool of talented or funny comedians. At least we were spared Elaine C Smith pontificating once again.

The most dignified thing about the entire show were the dogs.

I didn't watch it. Was there a puzzling and embarrassingly irrelevant eulogy to the NHS, at all...?
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
