I love the look of this one, personally would like to see 'Smiths' on the dial but then I'm biased...

Not some of the best meters for industry, steam locos and early to Fifities car instruments then?

    Eddie,

I seem to remember you had acquired a 100 modified, highly decorated, Unitas movements with a central second hand, what is the intention for those movements?

I got 50 of these movements and they're earmarked for the B-Uhr.

Too soon to think anything but "drugs cheat" when I read "Armstrong" anywhere now.
    Kind of sad.

    No, sorry.
As a kid we had a Smith kitchen timer, unlike all the modern mechanical timers it would go up to 4 hours. It wore out after several decades of hard service (mum was a dedicated cook).

My recollection of 'early' car instruments are those of Lucas 'Prince of Darkness'.

I joined Courtaulds as a student control engineer in the early 80s and don't recall seeing any instruments by Smiths from that time.

Seriously, if you never saw any Smiths vehicle instruments then you need to go to Specsavers.

    True now, not then ;-)

I was never much interested in older British cars apart from a brief infatuation with Jaguars (which were cursed by Lucas).
First instrument brand I really noticed was VDO.

What about the minis, Morris, Austin and many others? Anybody over the age of 20 must have seen these.

Back when you mentioned that idea I liked it but thought that very few people would get it (especially as I seem to recall you were thinking about it for a brand directed as younger people). Since then, however, I feel that the retro thing has strengthened in relation to watches and fashions in general and I think it could work. I'm still in two minds about the Bessemer Converter outline logo though. That said, some marketingspeak bumf explaining what the logo represented would probably go down well with many current potential watch buyers!

Not wanting to appear bold, but maybe you could just call them all Swanbourne? Have the re-issues as lines of the Swanbourne brand, and new designs simply 'Swanbourne'. It's a dignified sounding name, at least from here. So Swanbourne Precistas, Swanbourne Smiths etc. Just a thought I suppose.

What, name them after a road in Sheffield? If so I'd rather see the 'Trippet', 'Brocco' and 'Pomona' .... ;)

I suppose. French farm paddocks you crashed your plane into are much more romantic I guess.

Maybe Eddie needs to have a car crash with a member of the Royal Family and rename his company 'Goethe' for that exotic touch or something. Just think of the marketing potential.

My one and only car crash was in 1967 on the outskirts of Pewsey, what about that? Good job it wasn't at Nether Wallop.

Or Butt Hole Rd at Conisbrough it took the residents years to get it renamed Archers Way!

That could work. You could go on about how the near miss affirmed your love of motoring and inspired your new line of watches aimed at car lovers. Your headline limited edition could be a Ford Focus tie-in with a Burberry patterned aluminium barrel. The Pewsey REV1-ASBO. Then maybe something cider-themed.

The Smiths M1? Although Ollech & Wajs may have got first dibs on that designation. How about the Smiths A61?

It is sweet, and tempting, but another dress watch for me? I don't own a suit or go anywhere that would require one.

The TF watch I'm really waiting for is the ceramic that was discussed some years ago.

The ceramic bit was abandoned, the design hasn't been.

I wear dress watches most of the time, almost always while wearing jeans and t shirts. The watch is there for me to look at, and if it looks incongruous to others, so what?

True - Wear what you like, when you like - Don't let the fashion police win!

I really like the AS, Eddie - Great work!

    I especially like this shot:

Stylish and understated in a 50's way, but a modern size.

Is the same movement in the sewills ferreira. Last time I looked there were still a few available. This seems to fill the same spot albeit slightly slimmer
