    Zenith Dilema...

    Choices, choices choices....

I've sold off a few pieces recently, in an attemp to raise funds for something a bit special.....I've put that money to one side, and have been saving hard to get the funds in place..... For me this will be a once in a lifetime deal, so I'm determined to get it right

I've decided I want a rose gold zenith, with the el primero movement...... But, there are so many models to choose from (within my budget)
I know what I like, and I've narrowed it down to 2 or 3 variants...

So here goes, in order of preference..... So first pic is my first choice if you see what I mean....

I'm interested in your thoughts, so feel free to share them...

From the ones you have highlighted this would be my choice, I think the novelty of the open dial will quickly fade.

Ok thanks..... You don't think the open dial adds extra interest??

Gotta say I agree too, you will be able to actually read the time on that dial.......the others....not so much....

I would also choose the second one. Can't be doing with the open heart thing...

I just think they break the symmetry of the dial and add clutter to a classic design. I'm happier with a display back to marvel at the movement, but I'm sure there's a lot of people who will feel differently.

Well, I'm going to disagree with everyone so far :)

The first one is super classy and very "Zenith". They always pushed the "open heart" theme and this watch is distinctly them and beautiful (I didn't like so much the last one you listed). Most of the others are just nice chronos, and nothing special. 3 sub dials; big whoop.

The novelty does not wear off, I have several "open heart" type watches (no Zeniths at all unfortunately) and always getting compliments and people are asking if they can take a closer look. If you're not careful, you will catch yourself staring at it too when you shouldn't be :D

The first or third for me. I tried on the ss versions last week and if I had to choose between those two it would be a real head scratcher.

  13. #13
I'd go for the first one, just because it doesn't look like anything else in my watch box.

    1 or 3.

I have No.3 in stainless steel and love it. The open dial makes the watch look a bit special IMO and in rose gold would be even more so. I never tire of looking at it, the 'novelty' certainly hasn't worn off here!

I like the striking 10th (no. 2) also
I would be boring and go for the more standard tri color sub dials, though I believe it's only in steel or platinum?

Out on a limb here with number 4!

Love the 70s case shape and it's a hefty lump of gold... IIRC, that was the model you originally wanted Andy?

However, the pull towards the Striking 10th movement is strong...

Mmmm....being retired, I don't really need to know the date... Or the day, or even the time for that matter...haha.

I must admit though, the striking 10th, could very easily be swapped to the top of the list....it wouldn't be a hardship that's for sure...:)

Yes Lewis...No4 was my favoured piece, but then I started to look at the others, and that's when the Dilema began....

The trouble with number 4 is that the wife detests it.... Whereas she's quite upbeat about the others...

I know what I really need to do, is go and see a few in the flesh.... But it's interesting to see what other folk think...

+1 - personally I think that an open heart design can be quite striking, especially if well-executed, plus the El Primero movement is more worthy of exposure than most.

Possibly not a watch for every day mind, but as a "best" watch I think it'd be hard to beat.

+1 on this. I had a Defy open chronograph and the open heart is a hypnotic thing of beauty . However, the lack of date was always a problem. Not sure why one has to preclude the other though?

So number 2 would be the choice I made.

I guess the date wheel would obscure the view through the open heart....

Thanks for all the comment chaps.....

Well I've made up my mind, and surprised myself in the process.....it was something that Yeti said that made me re-think what was important to me..... No 4 is the winner....

    Why you might ask??
A number of reasons, main one being the retro- 70's case shape...not to everyone's taste, but to me it just shouts ZENITH....
The fact that it's limited to 250 pieces also appeals.
Also the fact that it has a solid gold rotor, also appeals...
And of course, it has the iconic, classic el primero layout.....Micky Mouse ears on the dial

I've never had a zenith, and I've never had a gold watch... So this will be quite a special purchase for me.... I just hope it meets my expectations...

Nice watch. Post some pics when it arrives.
I do prefer when the date window is in the more traditional zenith 4:30 position, it's the one thing that doesn't sit right for me with the 42mm versions.

You're obviously not buying this for everyday wear, so it's got to be the first... and by some margin...

...so very Zenith and so, so special (especially in rose gold).

Neither did the wife...... But, it's for me not her.....

Retro style, and old school traditional designs appeal to me a lot... And after thinking long and hard about it, the case shape of this one just says 70's zenith...

Price also plays are part and the only striking 10th (which would have been my second choice) I could find was substantially more expensive, and took me out of my comfort zone......this I believe would have played on my mind, and made me not enjoy the watch as much...

For me its about the whole deal, getting something I like, from a good seller, at a fair price, adds to the feeling of "I did ok there".

I know if it doesn't work out, I won't be taking a bath on it, and I can recover the price, and try something else...
