I'm sorry I can't help with the train tickets, but has she considered car sharing? This can be a fantastic solution to these problems. Plenty of sites and even an iphone app.
G'day Guys,
Is it possible to get a decent discount on advanced purchased train tickets between London and Farnborough return please? Presently it is about GBP 30.00 per day return I'm told and that amount is going to cripple my student daughters wages if she goes to work there.
Thanks for any input.

Season ticket?
Some employers provide an interest-free loan for them.
http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/servic...nticket/search
7 day ticket for £89,
1 month for £342
12 months £3,568
So £17.80 a day assuming a normal 5 day working week, if buying the 7 day ticket.
Look into the Railcard scheme too
Check out coach routes too. Even peak time services are usually much cheaper than rail travel.
I was back living with my parents when I got my first job in London age 23. My season ticket cost me 4/5 of my net salary, but the contacts and experience buit up made the next, better paying job much easier to secure.
Young person railcard might help if she's under 26, at least it used to be 26. That's what I did when I first started working in london commuting from Cambridge.
I have a Network South East railcard that gives me day travel to London plus 1-6 zone travel card off peak for £14.50 from Brighton. There must be a similar deal particularly a student railcard or travel card of some sort.

Great deals with a student railcard, I believe it was a 25%-30% discount but possibly just on offpeak tickets. Not sure if those timings would suit but worth a look:

As above i used the young persons rail card for a number of years, you didnt used to be able to buy a season ticket with it though :(
Many London firms do interest free loans for tickets :)
Thanks for the inputs, links and ideas, I'll pass them on. Sorry for the late acknowledgement, I've just returned from UK myself.
