Banned for disagreeing with Dr. Pete Millar.

Banned for disagreeing with Dr. Pete Millar.

I was banned for 24 hours from WUS for disagreeing with Dr. Pete Millar on WUS. Doxa has gone over the edge, and now bans you for not even agreeing with them.

Some of my post were deleted becuase I didn't agree with Pete. I received a PM from him apologizing for his last email becoming snide as he put it, and he deleted the posts. I don't think any of my posts were inappropriate I just didn't agree with him. I didn't respond to his PM, and just reposted what I said and said I didn't appreciate my post being deleted.

Who would have thought that not agreeing would get you banned.

What kills me, is most of you are sitting here talking trash about a watch that most of you could never afford to own. No matter what condition it was in. And most of you secretly deep down inside wish you could have it.

Just to see how many of you were right I contacted the repair center here that is Rolex authorized for repair. The person I spoke to said he has seen old Rolex?s come in worse shape and come out looking like new.

He gave an estimate of about $850.00 or less to have this watch looking like new. I asked what did that include he said cleaning, servicing, and oiling of the movement, he could tell from the photos the movement has never been serviced. Professional refinishing of the dial, and hands, and resetting them. Replacing the crystal, and buffing the case. And he stated that a professionally done dial does not decrease the value of a watch. He said other than the dial being dirty, that there was a possibility that it could be cleaned, and fixed, saving even more money.

I even Googled it to see how hard it was to fix a case and this is what I found.

The way I see it, contrary to all the estimates you say it will cost; it will not cost anymore than it would any other DOXA Sub to be restored.

    Dunk,

I actually agree with you and I would have put it at less than 850 bucks (depending on a few assumptions). Not sure I totally agree with a redial not devaluing a watch. I have heard many other people claim otherwise. However, having said that, a redial by the German guy would be tremendous because I think his work is as good if not better than an original dial.

Lets say the watch goes for $2,500 as it is sitting at now. Add another 1000 just for round figures to restore it and you have an almost pristine HRV SUB for 3.5 large. I say almost because some of the scores in the case and caseback would change the profile if removed completely. Personally I would take them out as much as possible and a good brushing should render them fairly invisible.

As for people talking trash. Bit harsh. Few people here have any experience in restoring a watch. Few would consider 850 bucks for restoration after paying over 2,500 for what looks to be a scrapper an inconsequential amount of money. I would also be interested to see where the restorer gets a vintage SUB sweep hand. Just ask Jack at IWW about the impossibleness of getting hands unless you buy another donor watch. You did something no-one else did and made a phone call and now you have added to the collective knowledge and given people something concrete to work on.

Would the watch be worth upwards of 3,500 bucks and would someone be willing to spend that money and time to get it to that condition? We shall find out in a couple of days.

As for what the value of a restored or original HRV SUB in good condition is, man, that is a toughie. 5 or 6,000 was quoted by Andre. He could be right. None have come to market recently and as there are only 5 known to be around at the minute, it may even be more. Hell, me and Joe hope it is more.....

Everything I have found by Goggling says that a professionally done restoration, and professional dial increases the value. That's mute here. The guy said the dial might not need to be redialed, it could be cleaned and retouched. What is missing is the stickers, and they are easy to find.

The minute hand, I had my hands replaced at Stoll & Company. I got the idea from John P. when he told me doxa would do the restoration, and the current issue hands were exact replicas of the originals. I don't see a problem in getting a second hand from doxa to fix it.

It seems you all want to make a mountain out of a molehill to fix this watch because of who own it.

OK then you buy it for 2,500 or 3,500 or whatever it goes for and spend 1,000 fixing it up. I'll update the book with the story.

Hands up here how many people either could or would pay that much for it? I don't think people give a crap who owns it, they are more interested in how much it will sell for and what it would cost to fix it. You have at least provided some of that information.

John V owns it. So what? The fact that he is the guy who tried to bring Doxa down may add novelty value but I doubt it.

I don't think people are making mountains out of molehills at all. This is a trashed very rare watch. We are all in uncharted waters with it and everyone including me is asking questions, making value judgments based on limited knowledge and experience and "discussing it" here. Many people including me would like the watch even in it's present condition but few either can afford it or would be willing to pay the money and that's probably why they can't be arsed to find out how much it would cost to restore it. Maybe you can afford it and that's why you are doing the digging.

I am not the only one to say it. Read through most of the posts, and the first thing you see is John Vargas.

I did some checking since everyone made is seem impossible to do, or not worth the effort. It turns out it doesn't cost anymore than a regular doxa to restore.

Why are you taking it so personal? Like you said, there are only five known. I agree with Andre to the right person this watch is worth every penny the will spend on getting it and fixing it.

Sorry am I missing something here? You have accused me twice of taking it personal. Why would you say that? Please don't accuse me of something which is not true. I'm talking about a watch and giving my opinion. John V is inconsequential. He posted some of my emails and other information, big deal. It's a free country and all that and has no bearing on the condition of the watch. Whether he owns the HRV or not doesn't matter. I think even you would admit that the watch looks like it was run over by a truck and needs considerable work to restore it. You are doing a great job defending it. Some people say you are taking it personal and acting as a John V apologist. I don't think you are but others do. Whatever, there is no room for that stuff here. We both have opinions on the watch, they may differ but that's what life is all about.

I'll say to you the same as I would say to anyone. If you want the watch and are prepared to pay the price for it and the restoration then that is your choice. You think it is worth it. Others don't. That's what the majority of this thread is about, people trying to put a value on something that is very difficult to value.

I am not defending John Vargas. There is no need for me to defend him. If I was so what.

My 20 + years as a police detective has taught me a thing or two.

Your writing on this is very emotional for someone not attached to it. Your snide little remarks about me buying it restoring it and then putting it in your next book. for example, or metioning what John V. has done, all that is irrelevant, and unecessary.

I solely was commenting on what it would cost to restore. As you put it freedom of speech.

Me, I could care less about the watch. That is all it is a watch. However it seems anyone who disagrees with you is wrong. And if I dont jump on your bandwagon, and say the watch isn't worth it, then I am wrong, as well as anyone else who says contrary to you.

It is just my opinion, and several others here that this watch is worth it. I went the extra step, did some research with a professional, and found out it is simplier than it was made to be.

No, I don't agree with you. I think the watch is in better condition than you portray it to be. This is not my opinion either. The Rolex restororer said he has seen watches in much worse condition, that looked brand new when they were done.

Now, I bought my first Doxa sub in the late 1960's on leave from Vietnam. I had a SUB300T Re-Issue. I just sold both of them. I have come to the conclusion that the current DOXA and its forum is more dangerous than the NVA regulars.

Although I think the Doxa watches look great, the current (mis-)management is very disturbing.

Too bad someone who had a Doxa for some 40 years, now came to the point of selling for the reason given above.

Doxa doesn't seem to learn from it's faults.

So now that the UDF is gone, I see people are coming to the Forum of the Banned to do their whingeing.

Well... I guess I'll have to voluntarily ban myself from the Forum of The Banned too.

Not sure exactly how that works... but there you have it.

PS: I didn't see anything troublesome in the exchange - just a couple of guys disagreeing on an issue. I should add though, having read the exchange, that Mr. Dunk seemed to take Pete's (and the others') disagreement a little personally.

    That is odd...

I live in Florida, and Dunk50 (Paul lives in Indiana).

Sounds like another one of DOXA tricks...

Why is it when someone does not agree with DOXA, they (DOXA) will intentionally discredit them?

Those of you, who know me, know I have not had much time lately on the computer. One of the reasons is I have spent a lot of time with Federal Agencies.

John P., come clean give up.

Mistake number one was telling a US Attorney (DOJ) when you talked to him on the phone that you lived in TX. Two, a Special Investigator with the FBI that you were living in TX...but moving to California.

Let me describe priceless to you. Turning over, over 150 plus pages of documents to 2 US Senators, 4 Federal Agencies, and a total of nine state agencies.

However, this is the mother of all...a letter from your lawyer, telling me to cease and desist, the funny thing is the lawyer does not seem to be speaking as a lawyer, but a part of the company...two Federal Agencies liked this one.

This letter brings up some valid points, one, DOXA is only supposed to be located in Switzerland, and yet it states you are in Austria as well. Two, you are supposed to be buying direct from DOXA?but this letter says that ifactory.at is the Authorized Distributor for DOXA. So, therefore you are buying from an AD, not factory direct. In addition, it states more or less, at least what the Feds read into it, that US Customs Forms were intentionally misleading.

And what does my public arrest record state, one, I am not a felon, and two who cares? I was not convicedted of anything.

Now, this from Rick Marei...very, very bad...it is called slander...

Subject: Replies from Doxa and Pfeiffer

Here are the emails I received from Rick Marei of Doxa and John Pfeiffer:

Randy, thank you for contacting John and for giving him this opportunity. John P. forwarded me your email because he has suffered throughout the past few weeks because of John Vargas's attitude, because he felt he is responsible for hiring John Vargas and for all the damage that he caused.

Please let me explain the situation before I proceed with commenting the thread publicly.

John Vargas is mentally unstable. His injuries have rendered almost all his vital organs dysfunctional and put him in a long comma, where his brain has suffered and unfortunately, it was permanently damaged. When he started to work for DOXA, we found him very pleasant to deal with until he started building his network of lies. John is a notorious liar and this is to the most extent, a result of his mental disorder. I never heard of a person in my entire life who is able to build such a network of lies around himself and at some time, starts believing them. I have a list of people with a long list of lies they were told by John, usually persons, he would call, brothers or friends. All of them are, although they sometimes find him, a pleasant person to deal with, are sick and tired of his lies. John is not a bad guy or at least, I assume and hope he is isn't, but his mental disorder makes it hard to deal with him. John built his own virtual world and unfortunately, the internet has given him a good soil to do it.

As the information he posted are mostly untrue. I am tempted to reply to his thread but I am not sure yet of whether this is the best way to proceed. I do not know much about your forum and whether the forum members are willing to listen to the truth and the other side of the story.

    Rick

Hi Randy, I have read through the thread again and it contains email communication between John Vargas and DOXA and slanderous material. If you have an anti slander policy, I kindly ask you to remove this thread

This correspondence between John and DOXA is not meant for public use and it is your decision whether you think it is correct to have this type of personal correspondence on your forum.

    Thank you

    Rick

You should be ashamed of yourself for saying this. Soap Operas have plotlines, and stories boards to them. Not to mention continuity, a solid feeling of flowing purpose, and are occasionally enjoyable to watch. Not that I know, but what I have been told.

This is more of a bad horror film from the 1970?s?No plot, no story line, and basically one sidedness full of gore, and laughable at best attempts at scaring you. Then random attacks aimed at nothing and prove nor achieve anything.

If the Doxa posts don't stop there's going to be some deletin' and some bannin'. Just to let you know I'm serious, the UDF will reappear until I get public assurances from John V and John P that this will stop. Assurances from both are necessary.

Dear Eddie, I am sorry, this has started again on your forum. I did not want to trash your forum and I apologize for this. For my part, I promise, I will not be posting here again, so please remove my account and my postings too.

    Hear hear.

I was starting to worry that I'd have to ban myself from every forum here save Shed's/Boy's Room and Time Factors Watches.

In case you're wondering, I own two Doxa's and love them (and have no intention of selling them, as some have chosen, as a result of either Doxa's behaviour of late or this pathetic argument) but am absolutely sick and tired of this bickering.

John P, fight your fight but stay off me!

I just got back from visiting John V.'s. And this is the first I have had a chance to respond to these posts.

I do have to say John?s got a hell of a watch collection, which I found out is not what he really collects. He is really a US Army Aviation collector. I have been to a lot of museums in my life and have never seen the things he has. He also has guns, lots of guns. What a collection of Thompson Subs, Colt .45's, and some single actions Army's. I don't think there is anything he doesn't collect, and what I saw were complete sets of museum quality. I hadn?t seen a Yenko Camaro since shortly after I got out of the service. , until I saw his. It?s a fully restored 1967, and no he doesn't even drive it, who would? The guy even has a regular swimming pool converted into a pond with all the plants and weird fish that I am sure are also the real deal.

For those of you he invites to stay at his guesthouse, take him up on the offer. There is a full Irish Bar, and I mean with taps and everything, and it?s stocked, with only the best. Not only is it the best, it?s all vintage (what I left anyway). I drank pre-prohibition whiskey and it is different. We had a great time. I was looking for a really special watch; one with a day-date feature, John took one from his collection and gave it to me. I tried to pay him for it and that wasn?t going to happen.

Back to John P.s post, I do know what you mean, with IP but I spent a lot of time on the net when I was at Johns place. Why the attack on me John, banning John V not enough, you have to go after his friends??

As far as visiting John V., its well worth the time and effort. A great guy and the Vargas hospitality is second to none. His wife is old school and makes you feel like family. I actually felt at home am looking forward to going back

    Strange:

Just writing down those 4 letters: "D - O - X - A" seems to be enough to start a war, over and over again...

It is quite shocking, i feel. How can some one block an individual for disagreeing with someone? It is the matter of freedom of expression and noone can be denied of his rights.
