Talk to me about your Casio edifice

Looking at picking up another beater and I was thinking that I don't currently have a Casio in the line-up - so rather than another G-shock, I was thinking maybe an edifice?

    So what you got?

I have had my fair share of Casio G-Shocks (still have about 6 in the collection) and only recently discovered Edifice.
I think the quality is excellent at the price, they are well made, and much rarer seen on the wrist.
Have 4 in my collection, including one of the excellent Red Bull version.

Casio Edifice is like the Orient or Seiko 5 of the quartz world. Very well made watches for the price.

One of my favorites is this (one of the pricier, feature packed ones):

Right click, properties...and I think you'll find it a picture of the EQW-A1200DB.

Yep, that is almost identical to mine EQW-A1200RB (RB = Red Bull)
    A very nice watch indeed.

It's weird but either it's a bad picture or that watch is scratched at the 240 mark and below! - look via the zoom - odd to use to sell it :-)

Either scratched or someone's finger slipped with the Clone tool in Photoshop... ;-)

It's not what people think of nowadays when they think of Casio Edifice but I have one of these...

    A Casio Edifice EFD-104:-

    (Pic found via Google)

I don't have a pic of my own of this watch. I purchased this from TheFlyingBanana back in 2009. :-)

The most notable feature is the very solid and heavy stainless steel case.

Avoid the analogue / digital display models.
You can't read the digital readout for time when the hands are in the way
    - or use the stop watch functions
    - or scroll through the adjustment menu.
    - and resetting the analogue hands for GMT / BST twice a year is a nightmare.

I leave mine on BST now, and only wear it in the summer time, or on holiday when it is GMT +1 hour.

I just have the one Edifice, the first limited edition Sebastian Vettel watch that was issued to celebrate his first F1 win. Only 200 issued worldwide.

It is well made, quite heavy being SS rather than Ti and is very well specd. I love how the hands move backwards when in countdown mode. Lovely futuristic 3D dial. Quite blingy though with its highly polished case.

Whenever I hear G-shock, I think of mixing concrete, putting up fencing, drilling/hammering, type activities. At least that's what I use my G-shock for. Whilst these Casio's are lovely watches, it looks like they would suffer from the (ab)use I hand out to my G-shock. I suppose there are diffent levels of beating, watch wise.

I was actually quite disappointed with mine. Quality was lower than I'd expected, the strap was particularly crap. I was also quite surprised that it had no lume, probably should have checked that in the specs, but just assumed.

    It was one of these:

I bought this Edifice chrono after I sold my Speedy and I wanted to replace it with something (much) cheaper that had a similar look. I have to say that the build quailty is superb for what I paid - $72, or roughly £42. It came with a solid link bracelet with solid end links, unheard of at this price. My only quibble - and this might actually be a benefit to someone who wears long sleeved shirts - is that it is not terribly tall (about 10-11mm).

A couple of photos of the Edifice Red Bull limited edition.
Nice solid bracelet for the price point, but the lume is disappointing.

A £5 Timex is great for those jobs as well. I was just making the point that I don't think the Edifice would look as good afterwards as a G-shock.
That chrono looks great, especially at that price.

I owned this one because I liked the white dial and red second hand, ef-547d-7a1v
but sold it as I wanted a rotating bezel, and at 45mm it was too big for me.

I'm not sure if it is common across the range but a number of Casio Edifice models apparently have Citizen-Miyota movements.

    Eh!? Which ones?

    ** edit **
Wow, so they do! I just found this on SCWF from 2010: http://www.thewatchsite.com/21-japan...o-edifice.html

This seems to have entirely passed me by. Even now it surprises me greatly.

I've had this one for a long long time, wore it at least 7 years. Now it sits in a drawer unused mostly because it's too small for my taste.
Great quality watch, solid end links and a comfortable bracelet.
It got a lot of abuse over time as I wore it everyday and didn't look after it one bit.
It has only minor scuffs on the crystal almost invisible. I would certainly recommend it.

    (stole the pic from google)

Had several Gs in the past, very happy with them, I never had an Edifice, although I like the design in several models and I'm very tempted from time to time to get one.

One I really like is the EFM-501D, which is not in the exact spirit of the collection, since it has a very simple design.

Amazon are selling (at least they were yesterday) several different edifice models for around £70.
Don't know if that's good or not just mentioning in case folk were on the lookout for one.

    Cheers
    Kevin
