Another budget vintage back to life

Recently picked up this 70's Veranda diver style as a project from SC for £11.

    Its issues:

Keyless works messed up and stem wouldn't stay in.
    Wouldn't run properly
    Knackered crystal
Date wheel appeared to have be partially wiped clean.
    Some cosmetic issues.

First step was to decase it and remove the hands. You can see the damaged date wheel here:

Placed next to one of my donor spares movements. You can see the damage to the date wheel even clearer:

The keyless works were a bit messed up and I needed to cannibalise the donor for spares. Here they are ready to go on:

Back together with the spare date wheel and tested as working:

I flipped it over and gave it a partial strip down. I never took any pictures as my phone battery died but these are reasonably easy to work on as everything is quite accessible.

I cleaned up the case as best I could. I couldn't do anything with the marks on the dial. I found a new crystal that fitted and a crown to replace the worn one.
Here it is back together and working well. I'll probably wear it for a bit, as is normally the case.

    Thanks for looking.

Nice refurb work, Ian - it looks great on that blue Tropic. If you ever decide you want to part with that Timex 1257, let me know. That's been a personal grail for a long time.

Nice save Ian, I bought the exact same model on fleaby for a fiver, like yours it needed a bit of work, I had to replace the mainspring and clean and oil the movement, also the two piece case kept coming apart so I had to spend an hour adjusting the retention spring but I'm pleased with the outcome,

Thanks. I used tapatalk and struggled to get the pics to show.

Yours is in much better condition.

That case gave me grief as well. I initially thought it was broken when it kept coming apart! Also had to tweak the spring.

Will do. I've had a few of these. I prefer the UK 180m rated ones to the American 600ft ones as the cases are slightly bigger and thicker.
