    Darkening white stitching

Im not sure whether this has been covered before - have done a search but didnt come up with anything

Anyone managed to darken white strap stitching so that it blends in with the brown colour of the strap more?

I guess that a permanent dark brown marker would do it. How about boot polish?

This is nice strap that fits well, but I cant cope with the white stitching

    Yes, I'd use shoes polish.

I bought some aftermarket straps for my Daytona they all had white stitching, so I used my daughters felt nib pens from her extensive colouring set, they worked a treat and you can pinpoint the areas you want to darken, I just go over them every couple of months.

Thanks - I thought that this would be the quickest, easiest solution

Trying to colour each piece of thread with a permanent marker sounds like a real pain

    Anyone used another method?

I take it that these weren't permanent markers?

Didn't want to risk a permanent marker one slip and you have to colour the whole strap in

I have just used a black fine point Sharpie permanent marker pen to colour the white stitching on one of my aviator straps.
The initial result looks good, although there remains a lingering 'solvent smell' to the strap.
If this trial proves a successful in use I will probably repeat it.

The OEM black strap on my Epos Aviator had white stitching that did not go with the orange hands and silver dial of the watch face. Ten minutes with a luminescent permanent marker produced this effect which seems to be permanent:

I like it (although to be fair, I now wear the watch most of the time on a heavy bracelet).

They are permanent so dont wash out

Also good for touching up bezels & dials

Just buy a brown Sharpie - job done.
So clever my foot fell off.

The white stitching on a Rios strap of mine responded well to the black Sharpie initially, but after a week or so now looks grey, not black.

I have ordered an alternative laundry marker pen made by Staedtler and will now see how that goes - it appears to be available only in black.

I did a similar thing to a brown strap with white stitching using brown shoe polish. It looked fine but did lighten up over time. I'll try to find a picture.

I've dyed a leather strap before using Dylon (?). That lasted very well. You could wipe it onto the front of the strap.

Incidentally, I also don't like the Clip on straps that came with the 29a for that very reason.

    Sharpie.

In the past, I've owned a Triumph Spitfire with a black hood and white stitching (DPO), it looked awful. I used a sharpie and turned the white stitching into black. I sold the car locally and now, 9 or so years later, the car's hood & stitching are still black. A sharpie does the trick.
