    Lent

Anyone giving anything up for lent this year?

I'm using it to kick-start my fitness and get back into (regular) jogging/running, by giving up chocolate, crisps... and the booze!

I've also signed up for this - www.40acts.org.uk

Having had to give up several things recently on medical advice I`m in no mood to relinquish my remaining pleasures!

Abstemiousness leads to smugness leads (fairly directly of course...) to mental anguish, social breakdown, rioting etc.

I'd carry on normally if I were you.

Whatever you give up, ensure you post it on facebook so everyone knows.

Buying fountain pens. It's got a bit out of control recently.

I had to give up alcohol on Drs orders last year so I think that this should exempt me from any additional 'giving up things you really like' for some time

Nowt. When God resolves the problem of evil and takes a bit more care of his/her or it's creation then I might take more notice of what his/her or it's representatives have to say. Until then...

Unwind with a pint or two in our own virtual pub. Friendly banter and clean jokes please and no politics or religion.

I think it is a reference to their strict observances of pointless traditions... but it doesn't really fit, or rather there are others that fit better.

It's a Biblical reference. It refers to public displays of self-righteous piety.

    Hope that helps.

Not specifically for Lent - but March I am giving up; sugar, refined carbs, booze and dairy products.

It's proving to be quite challenging so far.....but I am coping....just....

I am indebted to you. So the pharisees invented Lent - is that it?
