ASSISTANCE REQUIRED! 1964 Birth Year Sub beckoning.

What are my options - any advice gratefully received.

Sorry, I meant were there more than one type available, i.e. just stainless, bi-metal etc & what sort of price range would I be looking at for a decent example?

Thank you & apologies for not making it clearer in the first place.

I'm confused. Options on what? advice on what?

    Are there photos missing?

I assume the OP is asking what models of (Rolex?) sub were current in 1964 and which do we recommend.

On a slight tangent, is there any suggestion that the 'significant birthday' thing distorts prices? So if I had a big bday in 2016, could I save a few quid by buying a 1966 watch in either 2015 or '17?

    (just curiosity really)

Youre bang in the middle of the gilt era 5513 if you want a '64 example. So gloss dial with the gold font - very nice! But also very expensive for a good / genuine one. And s/steel only on this baby. Happy hunting

Or a 5512, which is the chronometer rated version, still no date in this period.

Probably best to lie about your age and save a few quid and go post gilt!

I was born in '65 and gave up right away on looking for a birth year, as gilt and meters-first weren't worth the premium for me. I ended up buying an '83: a belated high school graduation present to myself.

5512 makes sense. I never thought of that, but was definitely after a two-liner.

My advice is to not get hung up on the exact birth year; provided you like the 60s subs by all means buy one, but give yourself a bit of licence regarding the exact age........provided it's the correct era I wouldn`t worry.

Give priority to buying a really nice example rather than getting a bargain, it's worth paying for what you really want.
