    A brace of ScubaPro 500M

I picked this one up from Ebay a couple of months ago but have just got it back from a Steve Burrage service, its a quartz Scubapro 500M , advertised as not working for many years, I thought I would bung on a speculative low bid doubting I would win it as these are quite rare now, I duly won and was very pleased at the condition of it, its in great shape in original box including the fact the important impossible to replace bezel was in perfect shape, the other good news was it fired up with a new cell! I caught it just in time as the old one had just started to leak hence the strip down service and clean....
Its a great pick up and go vintage chunky diver, it compliments my other 500M Scubapro, the shrouded monocoque automatic with the Nivada Divemaster dial.. They make a nice pair... I forgot to take movement shots of the quartz, but it was a decent quality early well built one, not a disposable modern one, I dont know really if it could be late 70s or early 80s? Any one know?

    What a fantastic duo

AFAIK the Scubapro 500 came out in the late 70s. Here is a picture I found on the net which shows the 500 (automatic version) on top of a Feb. '78 Skindiver mag SP ad:

    (pic found here: http://www.network54.com/Forum/78440...an....%26gt%3B

The Nivada Depthmaster is simply amazing

Thanks Mario, I hadn't seen that pic before, I suspect the quartz version came out later than the auto so I'm guessing 1980s...
i think the Isofrane pictured was made for Scubapro, the Nivada came on one the same and I've only ever seen them on Scubapros in pictures...
    Cheers..

Beautiful watch, and the Isofrane pictured in Mario's photo is a lovely thing too.

looks in great shape, well done. I have an auto with a less than perfect bezel but it fits in with the rest of the beaten up look of the watch...also have the original bracelet which I understand are uber rare. It's my go to beater at the moment.

I can't make up my mind which one i like best - the almost NOS example or the Wabi'd example! Both are stunning though. Congrats on a great find!

They look alright I suppose.............BTW it is 'battery' not 'cell'.

In all seriousness I am jealous and would happily have both, the photo's are very good, did the missus help?

I'm sorry, did the word cell give you flashbacks?

Yep, the misses helped by going out with the kids for a couple of hours and leaving me in peace!

Superb catch indeed, that's as nice an example I've ever seen - amazingly clean bezel!

Funnily enough, I've got an eBay saved search for the 500M but always ignore the quartzes - I won't make that mistake again

Like them a lot! Is Scubapro the manufacturer then - I ask because it's also a generic term?

Scubapro was the company that commissioned them certainly, Im not sure who they got to make them for them though, I think the quartz one above and the automatic version were a fairly generic case of the time, the shrouded auto seems to be specific to Scubapro, there are other similar shrouded divers of the era ( Seiko, Ricoh ) but not the same.

Im not aware of Scubapro as a generic term, they are a well established Scuba diving product company......
    Cheers..

I think a lot of people in Seiko circles associate Scubapro with with their divers watches. Pas far as I know their were only a few Seiko Scubapro collaborations though!

First time I've seen a Scubapro though and it looks very very cool.

Fantastic find Jason, congratualtions. Did they change the seconds hands during production as I see three different types in the photos above!

My watch is all original with the exception of a new crystal so am assuming that the second hand on mine is correct for the auto version. The quartz may have come with a different second hand but i couldn't be sure?

I'm assuming they're all original, Jasons seconds hand looks the same as the one used on his shrouded ScubaPro, and the one in the picture looks the same as yours but with a coating of orange paint.

I recently bought a Scubapro 450 from lewie and until then I'd never heard of Scubapro.
If the 500 is the same quality as the 450 then I envy you.
