Difficult to make much money mining Bitcoin in the short-term unless you already own the kit (heavy GPU based) and/or have access to cheap electricity.

A friend of mine is mining Litecoin, hoping for similar value growth. He has a plastic crate full of GPU units and a lot of cooling. Electricity costs are high but he's turning a profit at current values.

As Bozza suggested impossible to make money mining Bitcoins now w/o specialised equipment.

Some of the smaller coins (e.g. Dogecoin) are a lot more profitable than Litecoin but values will fluctuate so I'd exchange for Bitcoin (or £) regularly.

Somewhere like https://www.multipool.us will always mine the most profitable coin.

How about using a 4kw solar array to power it....cheap electricity (assuming installation already in place and capacity exists as feed in rate is 1/3 of draw rate)?
