    Perfect 3 watches collection??

What would be your perfect 3 watches collection?

    1. The day watch: the watch that suits your occupation.

    2. Dress-down timepiece: worn everywhere from the beach to the ski slopes or for pottering around in the garden.

    3. The dress watch : A watch geared for special occasions and big nights out.

Or if you think a collection should have more than three, comment please!

    4 (maybe 5)

    1) Quintessential Dress watch, no date, precious metal, seconds only, no seconds if u wanna be hard core. Patek Calatrava, ALS Saxonia, VC Patrimony etc.
    2) Chronograph on a leather strap.
    3) Braclet do it all watch, e.g. Rolex Explorer, Omega Aqua-terra etc.
    4) Stylish, Fashionable, cool watch, like Panerai, IWC, JLC Compressors, Hublot,
    5) GMT maybe haha

    For me:

    1. Diver
    2. Dress
    3. Beater

Although I could find at least another three categories I could happily fill.

Quite recently a wise member (I can't recall with certainty who) posted words to the effect that for him, a watch could be considered in terms of its utility, aesthetics and craft and preferably authenticity/heritage too. I like the clarity of this thinking because for me it provides a simple view of how I mix and match these elements to select the right watch for my prevailing activity and mood. For example:
    1. Work - 100% Utility = Low Cost Quartz Beater
    2. Knackered After Work - Can't be arsed with mechanical but want something aesthetically pleasing with a high standard of finish yet self contained to make me feel civilised again = GS Quartz
    3. Leisure Time at Home - Mechanical appreciation foremost = Mechanical chronograph or hand winding dress watch.
    4. Leisure Time Out and About - Mechanical Automatic Sports/Tool/Business Watch with high standard of finish.
    5. 100% Authenticity = Vintage
    5. Wildcard - Just want something different/spontaneous (currently hankering after a quality digital).

There are many permutations of these elements, as there are moods, three could never be sufficient.
Experienced WIS may well have more sophisticated models.

    Any Sea Dweller
    A cal.321 Speedmaster Pro
An El Primero (a dressier version, probably a Chronomaster)

The need/want for a full-on dress watch would be outside my priorities for a collection of only three, but if allowed a fourth it would be a close run thing between a Calatrava or a gold, implausibly clean dialled Zenith cal.135... though perhaps a SS Master Control would be an easier choice to find and live with.

Not sure if i could keep myself to 3 watches. But if there was no budget. A patek annual calendar for dress. A rolex sub for beater. The jlc gyrotourbillion for special occasions.

    Speedmaster or Smiths Everest on:

    1. Stainless bracelet

    2. NATO - whatever colour you want, get lots.

    3. Leather strap - whatever colour you want, get lots.

    Easy.

Three is not nearly enough I'm afraid.

    - one proper dress
    - another dressy piece for the office, but with a little more excitement
    - beater
    - high end sports watch
    - diver
    - dressy chrono
    - flieger

Now keeping in mind that for some of these categories it is quite frankly impossible to stick to only one (especially dressy complications), ten is really the lowest if could go. 25 would be much more reasonable of course.

    How about this three.

Tricky! I've never been higher than 6 but don't really like to be down to three.

    Currently at 5:

    Dress:

    Smart:

    Tool:

    Casual:

    Sports:

Lord knows I could never be content with just three...

...but if a gun were put to my head, I could get by with these fellas:

Sure, I'd l wouldn't mind some complications (chrono, alarm, GMT...), but all my bases would be covered with this lot.

    Regards,
    Adam

    - A proper dressy chrono, always on a leather strap, usually a middle brown croco one... could be an elegant marine on a croco/alligator strap too, same colour.

    - A flieger on a NATO leather strap.

    - And, occasionally, a nice diver on massive stainless steel strap.

    Only 3?1?!?

I've a lot more than 3 (although a lot less than some people here), but if I was pinned down to only 3 of my current collection :

Vintage Navitimer and I'd plump for the Cosmonaute again for it's 24 hour mechanism.

Omega Speedmaster - For such an affordable watch it's just so classic, understated and versatile. I'm not too fussed about a dress watch (I have some, but I never go to the Opera or Ballet, so don't need to worry which watch to wear for the right occasion) so two chronos is fine with me.

Longines Hydroconquest - Not an 'expensive' watch, even in the context of the previous two, but a lovely watch that I could wear every day without worrying about it and is WR to 300m, so I could even go diving in it, with the right strap (and, indeed, have)

Notable mention too, to my Sinn Arktis, which was a toin coss with my HC for inclusion in my 'final 3' (perhaps I should christen it Sophie? But then one of the watches above is the clumsy and lead-footed Sussana! ).

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?

So far I only have two of the bases covered. I tend to agree that 3 has it covered.

missing something in a precious metal I reckon or complicated. A PP, ALS 1815 chrono maybe

or maybe even that stunning Bremont.

JLC Memovex tribute to deep sea

Probably a Datejust II .......SHIT, I am getting older

I think I'd be very happy with that

    For me:

    1. Either my PO or my Milgauss as a day to day watch
    2. A PP5296 (in white gold with the plain dial)
    3. An ALS 1815 Chrono in white gold.

I don't know if that would do it, I would also want a Speedy Pro in there somehow.

Smart (in steel) - a JLC Reverso or MUT Moon
Dress - a yellow gold Lange
Everyday - a matte dial GMT or Speedy from the late 1970s or early 1980s so nicely aged but still robust

Although realistically......my orange PO and Smiths Everest with the other PO being traded for an Explorer II

I'm never going to own a watch costing more than £5k
