    Lovely vintage PloProf

    Hi All,

As promised I thought I'd give a little update to a new watch ive acquired recently thanks to a heads up here! (Big thanks)

Ive always admired the Ploprof for what it is, a shameless no excuses tool watch, built for a purpose above all else. Some hate it, some like it but would never wear it, and me, well I wasnt sure if I just liked it or loved it. Having never had one on my wrist I just wasnt sure but I always told myself that I'd go vintage and original if i did.

So fast forward to the heads up that a lovely original Type 1 Dial and Type 1 Bezel was up for grabs from a great collector by the name of Victor (great guy) I decided to break the bank and go for it!

It arrived yesterday and Im very pleased, so here are some shots. It is a very heavy watch for sure, and has a shape i need to adjust to, but it looks so cool and so different, love it! BTW it is true, women hate it. My wifes reaction was, "I hope your not going to be wearing that" : )

    Enjoy the pics, Kash

Congrats, as stated in previous thread about the sale, the watch is in superb original condition. Since thye look exactly the same as mine, I wonder if you know the production date. Was there extract of archives going with this watch? Mine are 02/1972, SN 3198xxxx.

I`d also like to greet JonW, his book helped me when purachasing mine! Are you planning new updated reprint of your book? I have some interresting info:)

I dont have an extract no, Vic did you get one?

I could ask omega and get more info, just need to get to the serial number, assume the book will explain how right?

    Thanks

  14. #14
The SN is stamped on the movement only, so it is necessary to open the watch and remove the movement. If you dont get this info from VIC, leave it for next service period, your watchmaker will tell you.

    Hi Kash ,

I don`t have the Serial but if you get it serviced by STS at some point they can get it for you and you could order an Extract of Records which would state where it was first Sold too .

I believe it to be between 1970-72

    All the best,
    Vic

    For sure :)

There are often rumours about the Plprof weight and size, but I can tell you and anybody who owns vintage Ploprof, that the weight and size is not a problem at all. The weight of the watch without the bracelet is 125g, almost the same as Xl PO cal 2500 on rubber. What makes the vintage pieces very comfy is the lug distance, which is just 40mm. When compared to SMP, their lug distance (end point link, where the barcelet starts to curve down) is 50mm. So, the small lug distance and flat caseback makes the Ploprof very comfy watch even for smaller wrists, if worn tight.

The current release Ploprof is pretty comfortable too despite its size and heft.

I couldn't see what all the fuss was about till I tried one on at an AD. Fabulous watches.

Yes, considering the weight on mesh, 280grams... :) New and old Ploprof looking similar, but so different watches. Had both in hands and it is a completely different sport.
Kash, sorry for being a bit off topic, but we are still waiting for the pics:)

hehe, ok let me try again, i think in flikr i my have them as private hence not showing?

Also your all correct, its not heavy really, I have it on the mess which adds weight but it felt heavy as for the past month ive been wearing a small watch on leather, so its that difference im feeling not the watch. I agree that the vintage ploprof fits smaller wrists nicely due to lug to lug length being quite short, which is perfect for me.

    Thanks all

I'm going to need to read the flkr posts again and work this out because I hate not being able to share pics.

Anyway so today as a Friday treat wore the plop prof to work, with a suit! And it fits under the cuff and was perfectly fine. Actually I rather like how inappropriate it is : )

Funny thing is on the way home it's raining in London, and even with the umbrella covering my wrist Im making sure it's dry all the time, being vintage and all. Something in that is very odd, I mean its a PLO PROF!

The Vintage Ploprof is a classic for sure, a timeless design, you can understand why Omega re-released it in an updated version in 2008, there's just nothing out there that compares, love mine even if it isn't vintage.

Now that is lovely! They did an amazing job recreating the key aspects of the original design whilst making it modern. Buying one I think says a lot about the wearer too. I especially love the orange button, seems more modern and more omega these days

Until I got this one i hadn't either. According to the book there maybe around only 500 or
So left around, and a very small few have the type 1 dial and bezel. It's certainly unique.

Wore it again today, lovely and different : )
