I had a rummage about myself this morning. I suspect we may have been there at the same time.

I left with a pair of penny loafers (after paying for them)

Thanks guys - & the best bit...

I paid £75 from eBay - I was the only bidder on them - brand new & boxed.
(I was confident of fit as I have other Grenson in size 7)

...& by the time I cashed in my Nectar points I paid only £47.

    That’s what I call a result.

Wow, nice bargain there. I’ve just had a quick look on eBay but it looks like all their offerings have quite a smooth leather now, I think it’s the coarse grain which makes yours look more appealing.

Yes - it seems only the dark (chocolate) brown are available in the Stanly range with the grained leather at the moment.

Or these , but I wanted Dainite soles - for much less money

Loake have always had an excellent reputation, and I have some Cheaney which I like very much. Most of mine are Church's and if you live, or visit Northampton, I can recommend their factory shop. They sell their seconds and test pieces for much less than retail. Bought some slippers from them last week. Do ring them before you travel to check what sizes and styles they happen to have on the shelf though. Very helpful staff in the factory shop.

Yes they have lots of stock left
I think they’ve balanced the stock so it doesn’t sell out on day 1 -although he did tell me about one chap who bought 55 pairs

Are they the ones with a white size label stuck on the insole by any chance? I’ve noticed a couple of pairs with this hand written sticker and if that is the case the £200 price tag is a nice little mark up.

These Grenson Stanley's in anthracite arrived this morning. Not quite as good a deal as Zelig's but @£67.50 delivered it would have been rude not to.

From an email Loake just sent out:

We have recently been the victim of a cyber-attack, similar in nature to that which was suffered by the NHS a few months ago but, despite having stringent security measures in place, this has resulted in our email server being compromised.

As a result of this, it is possible that you may receive SPAM or Phishing emails which, at first glance, may appear to be from Loake. We would strongly recommend that you do not open any attachments or click any links from any email address you are unsure of.

Please be assured that we do not store credit or debit card details on our system. We are not aware of any other breach of security and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I’ve been corresponding with Oliver at Loake about my Chesters that are in for repair and he told me they’ve been having a problem but didn’t disclose a cyber attack. Nightmare for them.

Corresponding about what? (if you don't mind me asking) Beyond paying them, all I do is post them and wait for them to come back...

About a timeline for the repair and we got to talking about the IT issues they’re having. He decided it’s better for both of us to send me a new pair.

I don’t mind at all. My Chesters both squeaked. They’re only a few months old and it was in both shoes. Oliver said it would most likely to a particular element that had failed and that he would strip them and take a look. The cyber attack took place before he was able to do that so he suggested replacing them and was happy to send me the Bedale as a replacement which obviously I’m delighted with.
