I recently got hold on a "Rodina automatic" Bauhaus style watch and LUUUV it!
It's a Chinese Seagul "homage" to the Nomos Tangente and quality is more than ok for the price

The Max Bill design is the only from back then and sure a lot of the Bauhaus design inspired watches are NICE
What I really would like to find are some of the watches produced back then - I think the design dates back to the 1920's...
But I must admit some of the new style watches are great - especially the chrono!!

The Rodina made me think if it was worth to try the Nomos Tangente or the Stowa Antea....

Hmmm and the price is "nice" too....
Homages are not my thing either - but in this case it look like both the Nomos and the Stowa where made with a dial design that was offered by different makers.
Both company's are claiming to be owner of the design and have being arguing back and forth about the issue for years
The way I see it, the Rodina is using an old design used by various watch makers and not a ripoff of a brand name.

The Nomos is my favourit, but it is worth the price?
It sure is a lot of money and unfortunatly they very seldom surface at a more reasonable price :(
There is a beautiful Nomos Orion on SC at the moment. I haven't had one, but I think Nomos stuff is great. Stowa are fine, but if it was me, I would put the difference into a Nomos. The Max Bills are great designs, but the movements are a little "pedestrian", and I am a sucker for a pretty movement and a display back.

I have seen the Orion - watch is great and the price is fair too!
But I would prefer the Tangente or may be the Tangomat. :-)
And I guess you are right about the Stowa watches - they look great to, but if you want a size larger than 36mm you loose the small second and get a center second instead :-(
And you are right - the movement MAKES a difference! :-)

Do you really want larger than 36mm? The 35mm Tangente is all dial, that I think measures 33mm. My submariner has a 28.5mm dial, so these "small" watches should wear pretty big.

Spot on. I have the 36mm Tangente. It "wears" a lot bigger than its size on paper would suggest.

The Rodina that started my itch is 38mm and I think the size is perfect.
I never tried the Nomos, but being all dial it might be that the size is ok.
I need to see a Nomos IRL :-)

I have an Antea 390 and I can't say I have ever felt shortchanged by not having gone with the Nomos. The quality is great, they have the heritage and for the price the movement is more than acceptable. That's not to say I have anything against Nomos and think they are also great value but I wouldn't sell the Stowa to get a Tangomat/Tangente.
The Antea is more than nice!!!
Especially with the date!
The only thing that I miss is the small seconds....

Bauhaus? Suprized than anyone mentioned Alain Silbertein!! One of his collection was called "Bauhaus".
I've been lucky enough to meet Alain Silberstein personnally. Very nice guy.

He's extremly popular in Japan. He used to have a flagship store in Boulevard ST Germain, but they closed it few years ago after restructuring the distribution. Nice watches!

Don't forget that the Stowa antea was originally sold in the 30's - and therefore is probably one of the original "bauhaus" designed pieces.
I have both a Stowa and Nomos and both a high quality watches that represent really good value, but at a push just prefer the Nomos - I really like their brand identity.
I like both Stowa and Nomos and currently have an Antea KS on order. I also had an eye on a Nomos Orion in black but the recent £100 price increase put me off. As much as I like the decorated movements on display I think the KS is a nice entry level price. Also looking at some of the photos of the Nomos particularly the club the distance between the strap and the case while maybe making the watch appear bigger than it is looks a bit odd.
Still,, like the look of the Nomos straps and they seem to sell them individually and the prices don't seem too bad.
My personal view is that these designs have been perfected on the Junkers chrono and any small seconds version with no date. No black dials for me please.
I will probably be flipping soon, with two targets above!
I personally prefer the design of the Antea Kleine Sekunde - only the rather small size of the lovely piece keeps my from pulling the trigger on that beauty :-)
I was considering the black dial KS and put this up for advice on WUS. From many previous owners the white dial was the way to go not least because the dial can appear smudged. As a compromise I ended up getting the Stowa with a white dial and a Seiko black dial and although for the moment it doesn't bother me much smudges do appear pretty obvious on a black dial.

I had the same thought and went for a white dial version of the Rodina - and now an incoming black dial version :-)
I'm very interested in difference in how easy of the black dial version is to read - the white dial es sooo easy to read with no disturbing elements on the dial

Rubbish, the font used by Rodina doesn't match the "Bauhaus" style of the watch. And the so-called "Bauhaus" Junkers are straight out of the Junk I think, a revolting copy of the Max Bill with an absurd busy dial.
People really have to learn about the meaning of the word Bauhaus.

Hmmm the fonts on the Rodina and the Nomos Tangente look rather identical to me........

Not personally bothered as I don't own either and don't intend to purchase either just curious. What is the major difference then? I am well aware that the Nomos will be superior in quality, build etc but I am referring to the font and case.
Stowa do an excellent job.
This is a 39mm auto with a chronometer grade decorated movement.
I have a Stowa, two Rodinas and am looking to add a Nomos to my collection very soon, so I'm particularly interested in this thread. I was also a cartographer for twenty years so am used to subtle differences between typefaces. So, like diver2 and robert75 I'm keen to know what difference you're seeing between the numbers on the Rodina and those on the Nomos Tangente? I can't see a difference myself, so must admit to being rather puzzled by your negative remarks.

Ah, I understand now, thanks Vince. Yep, I agree, the font used for the name itself is nothing like Bauhaus style! I don't think that bothers me too much although you may have heard Stowa are changing their logo and the font of the Stowa name on the watch faces. That's causing a lot of consternation among Stowa fans at the moment.
